DAVIDN
The location I have planned for my T4 doesn't have Ethernet, but it does have solid Wifi and it's right above a light switch so it has power. I wasn't aware that the T4 doesn't have an AC/DC transformer and is only powered by PoE. Anybody have a workaround for this? I have a PoE injector laying around- I considered cutting the plug off the power cord and just hardwiring it into the 110VAC at the switch and shoving the PoE injector behind the T4 wall box. Bad idea?
DanITman
Not yet but based on the power box it looks like Control4 will probably add a AC power option. I had to run new Cat5e to make my T4s work. I had two T3s that were running on A/C power and I upgraded them to POE. It wasn't easy.

Strange that they would release a new, upgraded product and REMOVE features. Especially something as simple as a 48VDC transformer that costs about $3. Nice work, C4... DanITman
In the US there are strict guidelines and regulations on including high voltage in wall. My assumption is, that has been delayed. The power box has the spot to include the high voltage plug in but it hasn't been added.
RAV
It wasn't on purpose, one was planned, and it's been delayed due to the whole current manufacturing mess.

It for sure wasn't a cost saving measure They've always claimed there would be an option and/or replacement "mid-box" but I'd also guess the current world wide manufacturing/component/transportation mess is slowing it down. Curious how you do this? Is it up to code to put a POE injector in the wall? Is there an in wall one?

I’m not an electrician but I’m almost certain you can’t put a POE injector in a wall. Likely a big code violation. You’ve got line voltage going into it. msgreenf and RyanE
chopedogg88
I'm not sure either. I've only done it in a retrofit where no inspection was necessary and the owner agreed to do it. I'm not sure if its really that dangerous though since the line voltage isn't exposed copper or anything. I cut off the plug end and run it into an existing switch box...don't put a plug in the wall or anything like that!
C4 User
I am not an electrician either, but I am 100% sure this does not pass code. I would definitely make sure this is removed before attempting to sell the home. And I would pray there is never a fire behind the wall that exposes this hidden PoE injector. That said, I might do the same thing temporarily as I waited for C4 to launch a line voltage backing box for the T4. If this was a permanent solution in my house, I would install a small OnQ panel box or similar to house the PoE injector near the T4, and hang a picture over the panel to hide it. gogogadget
Im assuming you are going to put the poe injector in an accessible junction box. Maybe use an industrial UL rated version? RyanE
RyanE
If this is on a wall that backs into a closet or otherwise 'less finished' area, a panel box would allow you to safely do this, and would likely be allowed by code. Otherwise, there's no way I'd do this. I'd wait for the line voltage T4. RyanE C4 User and penn65000
