You think i'm the wappinghigh guy who used to post here?  Or are you name dropping Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B?  Either way, you seem lost. Try to let your brain accept that there is more than one person who might criticize what is on offer and the way things are going.
Here's a wayfinder:  don't worship corporations, even and especially if you've invested time and/or money in their products.  It makes it easier to see things for what they are.

Ha, yes.  Everything is great, DS2 and C4 are awesome.  Anyone who says otherwise is dumb for not realizing it.

Best hardware they ever released as 2n is the Royals Royce , worst C4 implementation of any device its ever graced our installations with.

If you login to the web interface and look at what it's capable of you will see they using 2% of it through the driver and the 2% is implemented shocking.
I also doubt they going to evolve or maintain the driver as they now have the new devices and opened it up to other door bells.
    Such a pity

This 100%.  My DS2 is flush mounted in a stucco wall in new build construction that was put up around the box.  Looks great, performs like sh$t, but there's no real solution to put up a chime in its place without leaving a ragged hole in the front of the house.

Most Door stations are flush installs usually on siding, brick, etc.  I'd hope c4 does everything in their power to keep the DS2 and/or form factor around as long as possible with updates because these are easily retrofit for new hardware given the holes they create.
Just my two cents - nothing against the chime but the mounting options for a Chime to replace the DS2 isnt really up to par for a luxury home.

I moved my support to Coolabode in August 2020 after finally tiring of the poor service from my original installer. Andrzej has helped me a couple of times since then with some remote control programming and a few issues with C4 and Sonos integration. And I recently worked with Kyle on another Sonos-related issue which ended up being hardware-related (old Sonos Connect output failed).
In every instance, with both Andrzej and Kyle, I received a very quick response to my initial request and great communication and service throughout the entire process. And their pricing is very fair.

I highly recommend engaging the Coolabode team!

NA, for these use cases C4 is not for you, better go to HA being the best UI out there and have integrations to all your devices and use cases

Agree with above C4 can but really isn't meant to be only integrating multiple other brands. It has that capability but isn't where it shines. Also it is not nearly DIY enough for you. You can do the programming but adding, removing, or setting connections all need a dealer. Want a new driver, need a dealer. Got a new TV? need a dealer etc.

I power cycled the ea5 (second try and waited 30 secs after pulling power) and now all much better. But we shouldn’t have to power cycle. C4 needs to do better esp given there is big move to streaming. I get that Apple is difficult but why not assign someone to follow changes and push new IP driver more frequently. IMO third party isn’t good option as these places can go out of business. Need C4 to do better job.

Totally agree Eero just works but it's not as performant as Ruckus which is enterprise grade and can carry many more simultaneous connections.
I happen to like Eero - i have directed many friends and family members to buy them!  They love em.  But they also just want it to work and aren't going to complain that they aren't getting 600MB wifi

100%. We all know I am not a Rukus guy but Eero is consumer grade networking at best and that's usually the beginning of peoples problems.  Eero Pro is just for their newest Tri-Band. If i remember correctly Eero also caps their mesh transfer speeds I think somewhere in the 300mbs but I would research that. Unifi Mesh or Orbi Pro are both very capable and fully configurable.

This is very fair comment.  I'm a Control4 advocate, but I still do exactly what you describe.  C4's handling of intercom and security cameras has always bean a weakness, and so it remains.  My guess is that security cameras can't/won't improve until the next gen of processors.  Having to dumb down modern IP cameras to 720P resolution is a tradeoff that most people don't want or like.  I don't like Sonos integration, but I do like the Sonos app UX.  Intercom looked promising for a moment, but it's clearly a work in progress.  That's a hard sell when so many customers have a baseline that is a highly functional (if poor image quality) Ring camera.
Not just do it - maintain it.  And explain some of the string and sticky tape functionality to the rest of the family.

ha, well i told myself i would avoid more posting on such topics here.  But i didn't start it, so...
I went through the same process as you on my upcoming house.  Couple of thoughts:
    - "single app" vs. multiple is a false choice between C4 and something else.  For me at least, C4 is currently at least a 3 app solution: C4 app (1), Intercom app(1), Security camera app (1).  Sometimes 4, as I still prefer the native Sonos app.
    - the answer depends a lot on whether you like to tinker.  If you don't, C4 is a pretty darn good solution, even with the drawbacks.  I do like to dick around with my home automation, so I'm better off without C4, and happier using something like Home Assistant that is more modern, has way more automation and customization flexibility for the homeowner, and more integration with newer "smart home" gadgetry.  You can get pretty close to "one app" that way.  But it's DIY, so you have to want to do it.

You are missing automation.  Everything you listed is isolated control - well I’m sure Caseta lights have scheduling functions and sensors to automate it
but control4 or any automation platform shines with automation and things working in harmony - no siloed control options.  If you are using c4 for control then that too is overkill.

automation is a luxury I realize - far from a necessity

It's a big bummer that owner left you without passwords for the C4 (and for the WAP i presume).  I expect there's a way to deal with that, the dealers here will know.
If you want to not be on C4, the thermostat is no big deal.  You could swap in any number of "smart" thermostats.  How many light switches are we talking about here?  Quality zwave switches (wouldn't do wifi ones) will run you $30-45, so it could be a substantial expense to swap the C4 out (though you could resell the c4 on the used market.  New house is all inovelli red zwave switches.

Won't save you a dealer fee, but there is a device renaming driver that your dealer can install.  after that, name away.

though not possible, there is no on going cost to use lighting in C4 and HVAC in c4.  so maybe you do not want to add audio, video, etc to the system, but it will remain working for lighting.  Oh and C4 works with Alexa, you can tell it to turn lights on/off.  The biggest on going cost for Alexa, and if you want to access your lights when off your home network is $99/year for 4sight (comes with a lot of other stuff too).  and if you are technically inclined you can buy Composer Home Edition - 1x fee of $149 and includes 1 year of 4sight so really like $50 for the software - you can do 95% of the programming a dealer can do.  You cannot add hardware to the project but you can pretty much program/customize the system in great detail using Composer Home Edition
The other option - right out the lighting/controllers and put them on ebay and/or the used section here to help fund your next tech purchase to replace these products.

If it’s just lights, as long as c4 is still working you would be able to use Home Assistant. There is an integration but it’s limited to lights and thermostat. You would just need to keep the c4 controller in, and HA talks to that.

wnpublic reacted to BraydonH in Luma NVR 510 integration with C4?
Control4 can only live view cameras and use PTZ functions. That is a limitation of Control4's camera proxy. There isn't any system out there in which you can rewind and playback saved footage on the Control4 app.
The Luma "fully integrates" by allowing things like full control over the OSD using the HDMI output of the NVR. You can control the NVR with an IP driver. So you can hook it to a TV and have full control over things with a Control4 remote. It also allows for push notifications and things like motion sensing detection. If you plan on looking at your cameras on a TV frequently than perhaps a Luma solution makes sense.
To save footage or rewind things you must use the Luma mobile app. Saving footage is a real PITA with Luma. Also its missing ALOT of smart features that you would find on cheap cameras such as Nest or Ring.

Luma is about as good as it gets within the Control4 space. But I wouldn't worry too much about the C4 integration and just get a Unifi system and use the Unifi app. If C4 integration is a top priority then go with Luma.
