Not that my opinion holds much water here, but in my dealings with Blackwire, Kevin, and their team, I was always highly impressed.  These guys helped me on weekends, odd hours, and with difficult clients.  I'd say one of the best experiences I had while I was in the business, both on software (numerous drivers), and hardware (Just Add Power).

I agree that rebooting shouldn’t be necessary… However, I would say that there are some downsides to rebooting.
E.g. standard Timers don’t restart after a reboot, some (even good) drivers lose the odd setting after a reboot and these either need to be changed in Composer or one needs to program around them at startup.  Some statuses are lost after a reboot.

    Wow that would be great!
Dumamivora, I cannot thank you enough for your assistance.
I will hopefully attempt to get Plex up & running in the next few days.
I’ll let you know if I have any more questions lol!
    again Thank you Sir!

I get that certain end users (like .1%) may be put off by the policies, but that's why competitors exist. If you don't like the policy, buy somewhere else. There are some open source DIY projects that might like more tech-savvy people to join.

You sure about that? The comments following your first statement seem to contradict your first statement.

I honestly have no idea why you guys are continuing on.
The policies were described and the licensing structure was explained to be given only to the dealer.
Certified Pro systems are handled much differently than regular consumer devices. It's obvious you guys don't like the model, but I doubt it will change.

Seems to me it's a pretty good policy if a dealer just comes in unannounced, and says they should move over drivers from another dealer.
"I'm gonna need you to just forward all the licenses to me, without any kind of verification"...
    Nope.

You're getting a few people mixed up here -- and its adding confusion to the conversation.
Original dealer wasn't on the job. New dealer called and was denied based on policy. Homeowner called and was rude to our tech support guys (yes we have the recording). We reached out to new dealer who ghosted or was busy or whatever to try and help fix. After not hearing anything back over the weekend we [Blackwire] proactively followed up with the original dealer and got everything squared away. Issues like this are extremely rare and we have the policy in place because the customers we service (dealers) overwhelmingly understand why its in place.
You guys can keep bitching and moaning about nonsense you can't do anything about unless you own 1) Control4 or 2) Blackwire but everything is all good now because thats how we work at Blackwire. We're all former dealers here and we don't leave anyone hanging  -- including people who call and are not nice on the phone -- because we have all been there.
tl;dr everything was fixed because we are not assholes like the OP suggests but that won't matter here because there's a dead horse to beat

    The guy also said:
"I personally reached out to the dealer who contacted us and asked for all the licenses in the project they needed transferred. As of this post we have not heard back."

The "Blackwire guy" doesn't need to answer to anything, and what their policy "seems to be" according to this thread is unlikely to be correct.
He said / she said, but even stupider.

That attitude toward end users probably has nothing to do with last quarter's $22m SnapOne loss....

Hey Everyone - Thank you for the positive comments about Blackwire and the hard work we try to accomplish in this industry.
I did not reply to this post as I was waiting for responses from our customers. We have a policy at Blackwire that prohibits transferring license between dealerships without approval from the original servicing dealer as outlined in our terms of service. This policy is in place to protect our customers (dealers) from waisting their valuable time in the field troubleshooting something they don’t have full access to. This policy wasn’t born out of thin air, it was implemented after many discussions and support calls with our dealers.
We did receive a support ticket from a dealer who requested a transfer of all licenses in a project to his account. We denied this based on our policy.
Shortly after our response, the owner of the system called our office with an extremely aggressive attitude and choice language for our support team. We are a B2B company and only work with dealers, however the ticket was escalated and on Friday, while on vacation, I personally reached out to the dealer who contacted us and asked for all the licenses in the project they needed transferred. As of this post we have not heard back. Instead, I was able to make contact with the original purchasing dealer for one of the most recent drivers (this project has multiple drivers purchased through multiple dealers further complicating the issue) and he was able to get the project updated with the new controller for the driver he originally installed.

I'm honestly surprised some driver developers  and dealers don't charge a monthly fee for ongoing support.

How it 'should' work is matter of opinion.
How it does work, is not the way that is desired by the original poster, nor many in this thread.
It is what it is. If the dealer model doesn't jive, then the wrong system was bought.

After all, there´s some procurement and license management to be done by the dealer.
The dealer is the customer in the portal, purchases the license and then assigns to the endusers (his clients) project. The dealer is doing this for multiple endusers.
That´s how the mechanism works - the dealer´s an essential part of the process. And this is nothing new -  it works this way in many other businesses as well. (perhaps besides the license piece)

you guys don't understand how Blackwire Driver Manager works.  It's really no different then DriverCentral at the end of the day.  They have a controller change process just like DriverCentral.  But both processes (driverCentral and Blackwire) require the original selling dealer to be involved...you all can keep speculating on how it works but it's not accurate

Stop using random analogies, they don't makes sense. What someone had to do with their phone has nothing to do with a managed automation system. Direct to hardware license assignments aren't anything new. Your dealer should explain the potential cots and risks associated with using 3rd party drivers.

When we are at that point, that statement will be expected to be challenged.
The validation we did security right is when those attempts fail. 😉

I actually embrace the attention. Every hole is something more I can use to promote the full secure ecosystem.

I disagree here, but only because I have seen software that makes it so difficult to bypass checks that 99.9% of people are shut out and the remaining .1% can be dealt with by other means.

As it is, the hacks to bypass Composer licensing are elementary and I'd argue we have not done a good job at ensuring security in the configuration tool.
