Control4 Dimmer Switch any programming options?

Recommended Posts

I have a C4 Dimmer switch as below and I was wondering are there any ways I can program it to perform different functions with double or triple tap to perform different things?

Any other ways this type of switch can be programmed different ways via HE?

thank you!

If you want it to do keypad functions then just swap it out  for a keypad. Then you can engrave the buttons.

Keep in mind that you will be also likely controlling the load when doing these 2 or 3 taps so you may need to reprogram that light control as well.

That's silly. Why spend extra money just for buttons? So they can get different buttons when they decided to change the programming again?

He doesn’t need to engrave buttons. He can just use little stickers like he did on his existing dimmer. Then he can just replace the Stickers all the time.

C'mon now mitch, thats silly. Why would you engrave buttons? You may have to one day pay $5 to replace a nice laser engraved keypad button that will tell you what light or music source it controls.

I made the mistake of engraving all of my keypads.  I regret it everyday

I have some original buttons in my house that been engraved for over 9 years and haven't changed.  Yes i have a few that i have changed.

My recommendations to customers is do the sticky note thing for a month - make sure you like it - then order your buttons and you probably won't change most of them unless you do constructions or something that changes the purpose of an area....

Maybe in Savant engravings are more complex? IDK?

Nothing says custom smart home like blank buttons or buttons w stickers

Dude I went into a $10 million house a few months ago. They have a centralized system they have been living with for over 2 years with stickers that are falling off the wall next to every keypad

And this is the only means to control the lights

Yikes is right... And to me that's just as bad on the installer as it is on the customer because the installer should know better

It's silly because of the cost since he doesn't have a keypad dimmer. I applaud you for possibly sending him one.

Some people change their system often.  It's nice you haven't. I take the experiences of all my Control4 clients, not just my own personal system. If people are at times frustrated that they need to "bother" their dealer to get a driver changed remotely, they can feel the same about the keypads.  Since you want to talk about Savant... it's obviously the same process no matter which of the keypads you choose from them. The buttons are assigned from inside the end users app which allows them to trial a bunch of different things... so I don't usually do stickers. Especially since Savant "scenes" are full system based and not just lighting.  Their OLED touch keypads obviously don't need engraving.... 😉

Exactly. I have had plenty of job take overs with this where the client regretted keypads simply because they couldn't get buttons ordered from the dealer or may not have even known they exist.

Some people (I am not saying antneed) may just not realize the super convenience of having engraved keypad buttons. Its up to the dealer to demonstrate this and is the reason why in NJ and NY, a real showroom in a commercial building is a requirement to be a dealer

That's a shame. For the most part the old keypads are still fine, despite having been installed about 14 years ago and upgraded from embernet.  They don't have all of the functionality of the newer gens, but they do most of what you need.

Everyone remember this the next time C4 changes the keypad style and order custom engraving before it is too late.
