personally, I don't care if you call it OS3, OS 3.5, OS4...what really matters is what functionality are you gaining

We are still working on it. Had a death in the family, then when we resumed beta testing we discovered some api differences depending on which generation of the bed that was being used. So we are updating the code to handle different generations gracefully so that we don't get a bunch of support tickets.

Yes it's well worth the hefty $25 Msrp price tag. I use them on all just about all of my installs where the main zigbee controller will be in a rack.

In my experience, with 20 zones across 3 AudioControl matrix amps, it’s better to just let C4 handle the announcement and not do custom programming. C4 does numerous pause/save/adjust/announce/resume steps that are not apparent and don’t necessarily behave consistently. The announcements Agent is basically a “black box” that’s supposed to just work.
 
Additionally, I have to add delays before each announcement so the first few seconds aren’t cut-off (the more zones, the longer the required delay.) In the end, announcements mostly works, but would be much better if implemented by the matrix itself as an “announcement input” vs C4 doing save/announce/restore for each zone individually. 

I haven't done a detailed comparison because I'm not an Apple guy, but I've used both for various clients over the years and the feedback seems to be that the Finite Labs one is much easier to setup and maintain, and everyone seems to prefer it.

I think the reality is that everyone on this forum is going to have to pay for Connect eventually.  We all talk about the latest features.  I'm actually surprised there are so many people who don't use 4Sight/remote access already.  
There are people who probably never upgrade their C4 system and just want it to "work" and provide basic functionality.  They'll probably never pay or will hold out as long as possible.  Those people aren't typical of people here on this forum...
I'm still unhappy as I think this is just a massive 4Sight price increase, but, if they do actually use it to improve the software, fine.  E.g., I would pay to have better Sonos integration natively without Roon.  And it would have been nice if they had a list of real things they could show us now that they are planning for Connect customers.  But if they just pocket it for the shareholders, which is what I expect to happen, that is going to stink.
