eggzlot got a reaction from cnicholson in C4 iOS app not available on Apple Vision Pro
that's fair but then again I am a luddite so i don't see myself wearing a mask all day for work. My 32'' computer screen can show me 2-3 windows/applications at a time. by the time I need to wear a mask all day for work I'll assume automation is at the point that I won't have to interact with it at all. Call that "Eggzlot's Law"

@eggzlot when you live in a virtual world you still need to control the real world 😆

call me a luddite (I still have a few 1080p tvs in my house) - why would you put on a VR headset to turn a light off in the kitchen or something?
I could see the VR stuff for gaming, learning, movies, etc..
I mean I guess if the headset is on and you want to make some changes in the house but I guess most/some have Alexa/Josh/Google home or some voice thing you can just shout across the room?

For Tuya - they aren’t false notices. When my controller reboots I just get a message with their current state. But still wakes me up regardless.

i have the same issue with the now discontinued Tuya agent with my Tuya water sensors. Sure its no big deal, except when my controller reboots overnight and I get urgent notices, that bypass my silence notification, saying I have a water leak, when I dont.
I was told they are not developing any more for the Tuya agent/driver as it is not for sale anymore, so I am SOL and get woken up 1-3x a year.

this - as a very part time / hobby photographer I found taking a photo of a key element in the room better. For instance, we got some fancy "hand painted" dish on a vacation in Morocco and we use it on our kitchen island. I tossed some oranges/lemons/limes in the bowl and took a photo, done....For the master bathroom I put the purple LED lights on in the shower (its a steam shower and has colored lights) and took a photo of the shower stall with the door closed right after a steam so the glass is frosted, the lights on are behind with a cool glow, etc. For the garage you could even use a stock photo of your car(s) or something. In the gym I took a photo of two dumbbells laying on the floor, etc. Another idea, if you have a pet, take a photo of them on a couch or in a bed for a specific room, etc.
Taking a photo of the room is just going to look like junk or a really bad real estate listing.

Exactly that, something that has female in and male leads out would be super simple to insert, and yes between matrix and amp.
To be clear, I'm in no way guaranteeing it'll work, but it's simple (and cheap) to try for yourself.
I'd go with a cheap one: sincerely doubt paying 4 times the amount will make any difference at all.

Greenfield solutions is excited to release our latest innovation: project quick start. This is a whole new way for dealers to think about starting a project. It's an agent that makes building out device and room hierarchies much quicker than manually double clicking a hundred plus times in a project. In our benchmarking, this can provide significant time savings.

For security it may be best NOT to be able to use the c4 app remote and clear. May be more secure to be onsite, confirm you should clear and do it via the NEO

at least I am still not on WinXP
but for the sake of sanity and happy household, I never have auto updates set. Even things like my Unifi APs, they aren't on auto updates. I'll wait for a weekend that the wife is out of the house (or even just for a long day) so I can upgrade and if things go sideways I have time to troubleshoot and fix it before she gets home and wonders why she cannot use a device.

Money grab pure and simple. Huge mistake to hit your loyal customers and dealers in the face. Realistically, I’ll pay the added fee for what is just rebranded 4Sight if they make me, but just be transparent. Don’t try to pretend this is some new product - it’s just insulting.
Also, if they push OvrC as mandatory (or move to a cloud based system), I’m gone. And I’m heavily invested in C4/have never said a bad word about SnapAV. Not that anyone cares what I think over there haha.

They're not programming, it's stated basic when then in the fine print.
This is triage level, fix with a reboot, or send on a report to the dealer.
This is house full or people and I forgot how to sign into Pandora.
My remote is stuck on waiting for network.
At most, I got a new TV, outlet dimmer, or added a thermostat.
Firemen, not carpenters.

in general could lead dealers to selling more "packaged" systems with just C4 components and having the customer sign up for a program. this way they know support will be there because all the hardware is Snap/C4....
but again who is the buyer? the tinker/DIY person on this forum likely has a remote dealer they use...the high end/affluent/i dont have time for tech/dont know tech person will need someone onsite for probably half their changes and that isnt included in the package.
They should have more tiers:
1) software/programming only
2) network support
3) software/programming and network support
4) all the above + onsite hours included from your local tech (where your local tech will schedule time with the c4 support to be onsite at your available schedule)
as it is now, i know my unifi/mikrotik/cisco hardware wont be supported so no way am I paying for that base package if I cannot use half the services. Furthermore, what if your internet is out - are they going to troubleshoot that if you have C4 hardware, or just troubleshoot C4 issues within your network set up....
so many questions....

i agree, their release is vague, but there are 10,000's of 3rd party devices, some with certified c4 drivers, some with paid drivers. either way, are they going to support every camera, every video distribution system, every music service player, etc.
again all interesting, gotta take that first step somehow. just not sure who is a buyer of these services.

eggzlot got a reaction from therockhr in C4 Connect and Assist - new CIaaS offering
i had a chat with someone else about this and we are trying to find the target audience for these things.
Most people who would shell out $2k+ likely need someone to come to the house to re wire/re stack etc when making changes, they are likely not super techie. If you are super techie, you likely use a remote dealer and wouldnt need to pay up front for this kind of service even at the $900 mark. is someone going to pay $2k+ a year, then also have to call a local dealer to rewire stuff or something when devices change or new hardware is being added? That is going to get expensive fast, just have the dealer come over, do the wiring as the adding drivers part is very minimal.
End of day, I've always thought C4 should move to a support model in house, and have the dealers be the sales/installation arm so kudos to them for kicking it off. I think some of the lack of detail may be intentional as they iron out a few things.
Another business comes to mind - Big Green Egg. not sold in big box stores or online but within the last few years BGE pivoted, you can buy online but the sale goes to a local dealer who does the delivery, set up, etc....I am sure the local store would have gotten more money if they sold it direct so corporate takes a few bux out of the deal but its a sale the store may not have gotten previously. I kind of see that model somehow with C4 eventually....Buy through C4, authorized local tech comes out to do the design/install, then support handled at the mothership kind of thing. C4 takes full ownership/responsibility of your experience. May hurt the dealer base and I assume some would obviously have to close up shop. But C4 has the marketing budget to likely keep local tech's very busy.

eggzlot got a reaction from IntrinsicGroup in Intrinsic Dev and myQ announce official partnership
not to go too off topic, but this can happen to any 3rd party driver.
See Tuya as a big example - they now want $10,000's of dollars to integrate into C4 after 2 years so I'll pay for the driver and have less than "5 years support". Another was a driver I used for a doorstation that went the way of the dodo bird when Houselogix shut down their business, C4 did a new SIP Proxy and that was that. Another driver for Steamist shower went belly up after a Steamist update and the author of the driver left the project. Outside of C4, IFTTT has had vendors come and go over time, and now IFTTT is a paid platform (if you want more than like 3 triggers).
It would be great as a customer to get a guarantee, but I think the responsibility is on the dealer to tell their customer if you decide to go this route, XYZ may happen
For me, after years of having issues with 3rd party drivers, I try to stick to as many native drivers as possible.
If MyQ puts this on their official integration list https://www.myq.com/works-with-myq then I'd be more confident.
