As they should. All these requirements are important to maintain quality and brand and happy customers. Don't need more people on this forum complaining about poor installs

lol none of this adds up
7/7/19 - quits job, decides to start HA company.
    Programming (what exactly?) experience.
    Microelectronics experience. Soldering gun?
currently left job was in construction.
Has network of builders, current business plan is new construction work.

8/31/19 - Control4 dealer! So in ~6 weeks or so you were able to LLC yourself, get insurance, get in touch with C4, get all that paperwork done, get into a class, pay for all those things, maintain a side business.
Not to mention go on your HONEYMOON, when was the wedding?
oh and, other industry professionals who you know that for some reason don’t use C4 are going to kick you some business for retro work.
Not to mention - engineer wife, however live in a town without ANYONE installing c4 around. Sounds like an engineering industry mecca.
Thinks there is a coupon code that expires in 7 days.

Loosen and line up all the wall plate screws all either east west or north south. Not screw until you can’t anymore.

OS3 is pretty. But isn’t the idea that there needs to be minimal to no interaction to achieve the desired result?
Obviously wrong crowd here as y’all love to tweak things.

I was brought up in the world of C4 that you programmed things to happen without interaction.

Change of times? More DIY? People want more control?

I have seen way too many companies that would rather finish a job under budget and do the minimum than use all the sold labor hours on a project putting in as much effort as possible to give someone a true custom solution. Not a control4 specific problem because it happens with many companies.

Well, yeah, that’s been an issue since day 1. Selling C4 like it’s a harmony remote or an A-Bus system

Either way, here's an updated driver.  It should work identically to the ST9 driver.  Try sending the commands I posted above and if you get the correct output then everything should work.

Pretty sure C4 requires an established business with a showroom to even entertain the idea of opening up a new dealer.
So after 2-3 years of getting that setup, then you need to goto the training and place an opening order which is gonna cost like $15k
Then, you need to keep your numbers up so they don’t pull the dealership from you.
Maybe you should’ve figured this stuff out before quitting your job.

They absolutely do, but, those other things aren’t really putting $$$$ into Control4 pocket.  Maybe I should have been more clear in my post. I was simply talking about hardware they sell. They’re definitely not a software company, I’m sure 4sight is some nice RMR, but they are a manufacturer, and have purchased other hard good companies. They need to sell that stuff to make money, and it’s not like once someone makes that initial investment, they’re upgrading regularly or adding zones of audio, etc. not saying doesn’t happen but rare.

Like i said, I bought a HC250-1 when it came out (first company I worked for gave me a 200 and 150 when I complete training) and about 15 lights when I moved. Handful of other peripherals off eBay and I’ve been running strong 5 years and see no reason to upgrade until my 250 kicks it, at which point I’ll probably just get another 250 off eBay! I’m C4’s worst customer, set it and forget it

Ultimately, they need more customers, and it seems the interest in general, seems to be slowing a bit, in my opinion.
something else that is probably still rampant is the lack of information some dealers provide the end user.  I have taken over so many jobs and added simple programming and just blew people away. Then come the questions. Can it do this/can it do that, then came some up sells, but not necessarily C4 gear.

    anywho, goodnight

my plan is energy management by using this sensor. i get enough sunlight in day time. so i want when i get 70% illumination from sunlight then only 30% i get from the room light. it works every percent illumination with sunlight.

A lot of good points in this thread.
C4 tried to take over the “highend” residential market, which is a small percentage of the world. (See selling to people in limos comment)
Programming a C4 system used to be an art form  they dumbed it down just enough but not enough to be DIY, which is the biggest issue imo- way too many “dealers” that don’t have the skill or care to do it right
    Video distribution is dead.
People were not as savvy, now people want to DIY.
So Control4 has two things left  lighting and audio, and whole house audio is a hard sell these days  why spend all that $$$$ when you can get a $50 streaming box? Costs much more than that to prewire a zone  and put up some brackets

lighting is left. But I bought 15 lighting devices in 2014, don’t need anymore. So I am a customer but not a recurring one.

Long story short, their business model is setup for failure, and its failing due to the dealers who are not selling the solution properly, doing a half-assed job at install, and leaving clients hung out to dry when support is needed.
IoT and DIY are the future

Because Zigbee creates a mesh network. All C4 lighting devices (with the exception of the wired KP’s for panelized) are repeaters for this network. When you cram 24 devices that are sending/receiving/repeating in the same area signals get lost.

Look up spanning tree protocol and broadcast storms. Same thing happens with Zigbee or any other mesh network.

Regarding the reliability of the devices, I have been doing this a long time and have not replaced many failed lighting devices that “just died”. Panelized lighting is “new” in the grand scheme of things, but nothing but success for me and haven’t heard any horror stories.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing about all this, is to know what you’re doing and install it correctly

Therefore, I would suggest looking for another dealer to help you, otherwise you’ll be back here in a year and a half when your home is done bitching up a storm about how terrible your system is cus some hack job “installed” it.

Remember, Control4 ranks dealers on volume, not necessarily quality. So you might find an authorized dealer that will do a much better job and give you more attention.
If you are not having success, contact Control4 directly and they will put you in touch with dealers in your area that may have more experience with panelized.

Word of advice for your 5500sq’ house. Cheap out somewhere else. Not on lighting. Something you will literally use multiple times a day EVERY day for as long as you live there.
Also if you’ve talked to a C4 dealer and they agreed it was a good idea to put a wall of C4 dimmers together, go find another dealer. Literally day 2 of training says don’t do that. And this is why panelized lighting exists

$8k for an alarm system seems incredibly high to me. Obviously don’t know what’s involved in the install or being quoted but I would get another quote or two
Are there cameras / door station included in that or JUST alarm equipment and monitoring?
you can get a full DSC kit with cell radio, C4 integration module, zone expander, and extra alpha keypads for around $1000.
A year of cell monitoring can vary I would say $300-350 a year is average.

They should just work inside C4.  However, what they do inside DSC depends a bit on whether they have ever been set up as zones and if so, whether they were set as alarm zones  (stay or away) or information only zones...
