using string variables can also make it much easier to know what exactly you are working on. Also, make lots of notes. later version of the OS allows for notes in the programming way worth it.

I find it easiest to start at a central device with the most connections and run the length of wire approximately to where it will connect. Once you have all of the wires from that one device lace them together and run them to their devices.

very like part of the above. if its a constant issue a reboot may only be a temporary solution. lots of great remote deals to choose from here to help if your local dealer is unable. Myself included.

You are not going to get that here as only dealers are allowed the software.
@msgreenf I think its time to put a FAQ or a "Before You Post" type sticky post that explicitly states to not ask for the software. Everyone has their opinion on if end users should be allowed the software but having people come on here and their post is asking for the software is not helpful.

I can say that it is awesome as well. It is very fast and its great to finally have video playback in the control4 app. The features at release are really great and they plan to keep improving it with more software features and updates. It is limited to 4 cameras, but for how fast it recognizes and positively identifies objects it's worth it. For the entire time I have had it false notifications have been really limited to challenging night scenes with multiple objects. So a person may have activated the event but because there is a car that is closer it might say it was the car that was the trigger rather than the person. Keep an eye on our patreon we will have a video showcasing its features and how to use and program it in control4 yourself with just composer home with limited involvement from a dealer.

    Agree it's confusing.
Here's how I see it, and I understand it's redundant in ways, trying to figure it out myself to explain it to clients.
An NVR is a vault. Large long term PRIVATE storage.
Insight is a user interface. Easy access.
Cameras are the data source for both.
If you built Insight into the NVR, you'd be essentially building a gaming computer. Processor for this, another for that. Ram for this, storage for that. And you'd have a possibly less secure storage as it's now cloud connected, which many don't want.
By making it two boxes, you have options for different client needs. Maybe front outside cameras are OK with them for the cloud review, while keeping inside and pool area only private local storage. Some clients may be fine with all cloud and a few cameras, no NVR required. Others, all private. Two boxes, you have all the options.
Without a cloud storage connection, you'd have a slower client interface, which is what you have now with an x20 NVR. So yes, that's redundant. But Luma isn't as slick an interface, and by it's nature closed to the Control4 system for review.
Somebody other than the vault needs to hold the short term clips for quick access. These short term clips need to be accessed by multiple interfaces. In house, by the Control4 system. Clients out of house, by an app. And ability to send to clients, share and easily archive. As it's more likely to be accessed by people when they're not home, it makes sense to have them in the cloud, rather than local storage. And being real, there's a revenue stream created there, the worlds going there.

It's the same program that your dealer is using to program your system. unless he is exclusively using express and that is a dumpster fire. Composer home just has the pro features striped away otherwise it is nearly the same program. Yes, you can use other tools like When Then and even more options in the c4 app allow you to customize things on the fly which is awesome. If you or anyone else would like to know more about how to use Composer Home and everything that you can do check out our training course.

My dealer is updating me to OS3.4 as I type.  Does anyone know what is in this release? It hasn’t sounded all that exciting in other posts based on people’s CEDIA experiences but I am hopeful that there will be some hidden gems?

the router yes especially for multi-gig wan. The Primary switch yes, especially if the other secondary switches have SFP you could do 4 other primary switches with a better connection on SFP.  Any waps and any other high-output devices should be on the primary multigig. If the rest of the switches will fit on the primary it would be best. If any other switches have to go on a secondary switch it should be one of the ones connected with sfp. If you need more 2.5gig devices connected than what one 24 port can handle simply add a second. Leave the rest of the switches alone assuming nothing has the ability to use multi-gig.

PLEASE NEVER USE this feature with anyone you do not personally know. If they don't want to pay the fee then the buyer needs to up the amount paid or the seller has to take the hit.  @ChrisKay great of you to try and help them out, especially in a situation where many people are losing money on the sale. please do not give up your protections with online payments.

Hey everyone. Posting this thread, just to make everybody aware of a scammer on the website. I posted a want to buy thread a couple days ago, wanting a couple of modules for Yale locks, and I had someone message me saying they had a few for sale. I looked into their profile and the side they had a few posts so I trusted the seller. I gave them my phone number so they can text me which they did. After paying seller, communication stopped. Will not answer me at all anymore. Just wanna make everybody aware of this. I lost my money but I don’t want you to lose yours. Good luck.

the issue is there is not a big enough demand. Would be nice, especially with our composer training course and would take out some guess work. In the end if your physical system is well documented and labeled it may not even have any benefit to have.

    Dude.
Ad-free subscription is literally less than $.03 a day.
Or "stick it to the man" and run an ad blocker.
Or just deal with the ads?
    I'm not judging.
I just don't understand coming to a forum, from which you have clearly received value, to bitch about ads, while not bothering to hit the easy button.
Hope you figure out a good solve.

this is a very small and likely weak Zigbee mesh. you essentially have one device that is capable of extending the mesh and my assumption its hidden behind something and the ea3 is also stuff in something. Then if you add other wireless interference it is very likely it may not be reliable even though it is working for the moment. Make sure your Zigbee and wifi are separated and that the ZigBee devices have the best line of sight or add some more Zigbee node devices to strengthen the network. Light switches are the best for this and give you more automation options as well.

Rachio is the best way to go
Integrate for automation control4. Neighbors like to relieve their pets in my yard. Weirdly my sprinklers often turn on at that time.
Simple irrigation control is better than the rachio app.
going outside or taking a shower turn off the sprinklers if they are running.

the proper way is to use an access control system. There is a lot to cover here that is not easily answered in the forums. Life and safety are at risk if not done properly.
