  1. C4 camera support is pretty weak for anything other than a real-time view. The intercom support esp. to a phone is spotty - there's a whole thread of people saying it's not working for them. For event playback, etc. you're going to be using whatever app is native to the camera, whether it's Ring, Unifi Protect, or Luma. If you like Ring, might as well stick with that.
  2. All the code needed is right here: https://github.com/garbled1/balboa_homeassistan Works great, i've got full control from HA.
  3. In old house, I was very satisfied with my Balis, which are zwave and absurdly inexpensive. two-way with status from 1% to 100%. They were run by a Vera, for which there were C4 drivers (free or cheap, i forget). What I don't know is whether there is a similar C4 integration for a more current zwave controller. Maybe a third of the Lutron cost? Shortly, others are likely to jump on to tell you that 1) the motors are louder than Lutron and 2) they are not synchronized like the Lutron is. Both of those things are true (have Lutron in new house). But 1) is sort of silly because you're not exactly putting blinds up and down all day long - twice or so a day, really. For 2) I suppose it's how much you value a cool but fleeting visual impression. I honestly never look at the things anymore.
  4. Did you like Windows Me? Then you’ll love the interface.
  5. Seems about right. The DS2 is an embarrassment unfortunately. Hardware looks good, but image quality straight out of 1998.
  6. Pretty much what the guy above said. There are a lot of not super-expensive zwave devices available to use - switches, sensors, covers, etc.
  7. I'm guessing this is market protection for the C4 screens. lame Think this is mostly solved by software now. iPad has an algorithm that is meant to prevent damage/hazard from constant charging.
  8. You inspired me, i bought the Phyn+shutoff so will post my reactions when installed.
  9. This guy looks like monitor only. https://www.phyn.com/smart-water-assistant/ This thread has convinced me i need something like this, or the Moen.
  10. This is the one that seems most promising to me w/r/t in the pipes. Integration would have to be through IFTTT. https://www.phyn.com/plus-smart-water-assistant/
  11. There is an open source python script for it if someone wants to build one https://github.com/dr-prodigy/python-holidays (one exists, for example, in Home Assistant)
  12. It seemed like the discussion was about 3.3.1, as in "it drops support for a piece of hardware and that has upset some people." Agree that the jailbreaking stuff is a different deal.
  13. Or, just hear me out, people could continue to talk on a forum as long as there are other people interested in also talking. Those not interested could not read, or participate.
  14. The truth on the ground is a lot more complicated. There would be arguments that hacking a software tool rather than the device itself is a distinction, and there are other, non-DMCA based claims that you might run into if snapone was sufficiently motivated - like a Computer Fraud and Abuse Act ("CFAA") claim. And what people often miss is that even unsuccessful legal claims against you are expensive, time-consuming, and anxiety-producing. (I'm sure various detractors will say I don't know what i'm talking about. I promise i am intimately familiar with such claims). That said, the most likely thing is that the company has neither the money nor the bandwidth to go after the diy community as long as it is perceived to be a comparatively small group.
  15. Yes, it is super lame that there is no better way to find what’s been programmed for your own house. In general, it’s crazy that they continue to evolve the hardware side but composer is basically windows 98.
  16. IMO, That would be huge. If there were some z wave drivers for common devices - switches, covers, etc., and end user could do the discovery and config, that would scratch a lot of itches for more "control."
  17. I had wondered the same thing. My guess.....Nooooooo
  18. I think the poster's point is that the entire system can't be upgraded, even though the HC800 is just performing an ancillary function. Like you can't upgrade the top of rack switch because one of the servers in the rack is EOL. I don't see any problem with sunsetting 10 year old stuff, but I can understand finding annoyance with this result.

Honest question: is this a generational thing? I’m in my 50s, and neither I nor my spouse wants to interact with anything via speech.
  20. Yep - huge disappointment that they did this and support just a few devices.
  21. Are you answering the question “tell me you don’t understand how analogies work without saying ‘I don’t understand how analogies work?’” You’re my favorite poster.
  22. Nothing about the automations at the properties I use HA at strike me as simple, limited or clunky. But it’s too hot today to argue - so I’ll just state that I disagree.
  23. I'll just agree to disagree. I think this (the extent to which DIY/open source has progressed in terms of features/stability/usability) is a blind spot for people here, but your point about the appeal of just having someone else manage it all probably does make sense for a number of people.
