l3anks reacted to South Africa C4 user in One line of code that has made my Neeo experience so much better
I had to share this as I am loving this change for my Neeo remote. I am sure that others have done this already!
My biggest irritation with the Neeo has been that when browsing menus, I often press the back button expecting to exit the menu on the remote.  Of course this does not happen.
I have added a line of code at room level for “when cancel is pressed”, go to home on the relevant Neeo remote.
I am absolutely loving the improved experience and I am using the physical back button a lot (even as a replacement for swiping to get back to my main sceen on the Neeo).
If anyone uses the same Neeo in multiple rooms, this is probably not a good idea or needs more code.  I only use my Neeos in one room (per Neeo).

I have 10Gbe connections for a few internal networking connections like NAS to PC to Switch.   But if you were buying or installing a new network, I would at minimum install 2.5Gbe switches with SFP+ and maybe even some main MTP fiber runs within the home.   It creates a lot of optionality for now and in the future.

    It's a totally different experience.
Imagine you're a CEO. You want coffee. You ask your personal assistant for a coffee. They know size, where, add ins, etc. It's just done. Dave, please get me a coffee. Poof, magic.
Instead your assistant is out sick, and the temp Alexa is going to get your coffee. You need to provide every detail, exactly as the temp expects so they can get it right,if you make one mistake, leave out a detail, it's your fault, not the temps, Alexa makes you work for her. Even after she gets the coffee, she's doesn't know where to place it, you need to tell here that too.
No big deal, it's just one day. But your assistant is out for a week, and EVERY day, you have to detail your coffee order again and again, Alexa never learns. If your request doesn't match, no actions. Alexa is neat at first, but can wear off, or you need to spend more time making routines and learning the way she want's you to speak. It's work.
Josh is natural language, no meeting the exact syntax. So it's easier and more reliable. It knows alias to rooms: Gym, Exercise, Fitness etc. so everyone can use easily. It remembers usage, so things like 'turn them off' works. It's faster than Alexa. And it's focused on control, so it can be smarter in processing commands. AI isn't a cute tag on to their name, Josh is intelligent.
Josh does more music integration, especially with Sonos. It's also end user tweakable, they can easily make their own scenes. And it's faster than an app, or a touchscreen, how many button presses does it take you to play a song on demand? 7? 13? you'd be surprised how many if you count. And, it's also not another damn screen. All day long we're looking at screens. Work, phones, tablets, heck even the grocery store. I want a break, "Hey Josh, lets' unwind." (hopefully there's a bartender interface soon).
It's been said here many times, people are moving away from large control systems. Josh is an add on layer that makes it fun, and functions as whole home control bringing the pieces together. But their sandbox of products is small. You could build a very reliable, powerful system, with their sandbox of products: Lutron, Sonos, Ecobee, Samsung/Sony, Roku. But, with Control4, it brings in all the other pieces too: garage doors, locks, irrigation, IR and Serial control stuff, other shade vendors, and Control4 lighting integrates as well as Lutron. And voice isn't always the best interface, sometimes you want a touchscreen for parties, and viewing information.
And it's private, no one collecting all your data, and that's why you pay a license fee. $50 or $100 a month depending on size of project. What's your data worth, and a better experience too.

l3anks reacted to South Africa C4 user in System keeps crashing
I’d strongly recommend that you (everyone) put a notification in your startup programming for your Director.  You will then always know when the Director Reboot’s for any reason (Wattbox failure, deliberate reset, hot fix reboot from C4 or any other driver, soft reset etc.).  I have this and also monitor (and display) system uptime (just for fun).

ntpd is a time service which keeps hardware in sync and signal 15 is a restart service request.
ntpd can restart itself if the clock drifts too far from actual time. This could indicate a hardware problem or something is triggering a service restart.

Are there any logs before the signal 15?

l3anks reacted to Atrunco in Jandy iAqualink Driver Issues
My IAquaLink drivers on two pools are both unresponsive.  Driver version 9.  Previously have worked flawless, but noticed my lights not coming on Tuesday and can’t get them back online. Work fine through IAquaLink app, so I know the units are still connected.  Maybe Jandy did something on their end?  Have used theses for past two years but kinda glad to see someone else having issues.  Makes me think it is not us, but rather them and hopefully will get fixed soon.

l3anks reacted to zaphod in Easily make Custom-Scenario buttons for your Control4 Navigator screens
I have written a Python script to easily make C4 drivers with customized icons by altering the stock Control4 Scenario Experience driver.  This involves unzipping a C4Z file, changing the icon image files, and making slight alterations to the XML file before rezipping it.  This script automates all of that and outputs a new C4Z driver file that can be added to your project by your dealer via Composer Pro. You just need to provide an image file to start with - ideally a PNG file that is about 1024x1024. (Smaller image files were working but some icons might look stretched.) After the new driver file is added to your sytem you can then use Composer HE to decide what screens to display these in, and Favoriting in Navigator to put these buttons on (almost) any screen that you want and tie them to any task in C4.
You will need Python 3, but it should work in Windows, Linux and WSL. (If you are running Linux under Windows 10 then you should have Python already installed on that. If you have Windows 10 I would highly recommend installing Ubuntu so that you have a Linux system running inside of Windows 10).
Instructions on how to do all of this are in a Readme file and in comments in the Python file.  In theory the script should work on Macs as well but I don't have a Mac to test.  Download the file from Github:   https://github.com/zaphodb65/C4driverbuilder
The final result will look like this. (This is from the C4 app on an iPad)

I know this isn’t a ps5 but would recommend google stadia. Use chromecast ultra + stadia controller which is WiFi. Controller works anywhere in the house or patio and can game on basically any screen

Just a note for those who didn't know, with the new M1 Computers you can run iOS Apps.
Just DL'd the iOS app to my MacBook Pro, and I must say it's very snappy! It runs like a native app.

I've just called the Brasil office and spoke to them about this.  They seemed very friendly and told me this product is shipping and available.
I'm located in the United States and was told their distributor is located in Chicago and should have stock available.  Once I receive further information I'll let everybody else know who is interested.
@Amr I see you are located in Egypt, but perhaps the US distributor can also help you out or provide different contact information?
    Thanks,
    John

l3anks reacted to Dr Noisewater in RGBW Lighting - DMX
I am currently using the Domaudeos Dmx driver along with the engineering solutions box. I used RGBWW strips so that I could have a warm white and also a separate 6000k white all above 90 +/- CRI.  With the DMX control, you can really dial it in.  I did all the wiring and installation and learned a ton along the way. Each zone gets a Dmx decoder, Meanwell 24v power supply, and a run of 18/6 out to the strips. Sometimes you have to run a few separate 18/6 runs to eliminate voltage drop if your going out a ways.  All of it works awesome in C4. I have seperate color sliders for each zone/room now. If you have any questions I would be more then happy to help where I can.

You can also control devices via the Josh app.  Agree, doesn't make a lot of sense with 1 device + C4. You would likely want multiple micros in your project.
I'm a new JoshAI dealer and can help get pricing if anyone is interested.

C4 sells a dumb replacement switch in 10-packs if you just want to make everything look the same but don’t need every switch to be controllable.
    C4-MSW-10PK-WH, MSRP $60.00 for 10 switches.
