brucecampbell reacted to zaphod in HC800 power supply
On second thought, it is hard to say as it is very confusing - it may actually be 5.50 x 2.50 mm. Here is a photo from the side of the box. The adapter that fits is third down in the photo with the green ring But - on the little rack that contains all of the adapters it is the second one down and is labelled "B". But this is the type of power supply where the individual adapters do "adapt" the main size plug. It isn't the type where when you take off all of the adapter that there is a bare two or three pins, if you know what I mean.
The adapter that fits has the green ring - so it would be the third down in this photo on the box. To be safe you might want to do what I did, take the HC800 into the shop with you and make sure you find one that fits.

6.3 is correct, I just mic a spare OEM power supply.
The aftermarket ones are loose but do work.

Alternatively, on one CAT you can send HDBaseT with networking - which can feed a small network switch. Usually 10/100 but that's PLENTY for current streaming requirements.
Gets a little cramped, but lots of options exist.

I wouldnt say dedicated devices per tv is for everyone just like a matrix is not for everyone. It hinges off your setup and want you want available to each tv. Me i prefer the matrix as i have 4k blu-ray, roku shield, hopper, NVR. If i were to have each of these devices available to every tv in my home, i would be much more poor than i already am haha. Not to mention the number of times each of these has been upgraded in the last 5 years the matrix has made me money at this point.

If you have an Apple TV, Infuse Pro will give you a much better browsing experience at a fraction of the price of putting in a new controller...

I bought a z2io and z2ir for two other TVs where we only stream. Figured then I don’t have to worry about future changes

If anyone really needs an HC300 I will be happy to trade one for an EA-5, and, since I am feeling generous, I will even do it straight up!

I just purchased today from Amazon for a good price (weird they still don't ship to NZ even though they now have a presence here.)
Alexa devices are available in store in NZ, however Roku is not.
I got the Roku Premiere, so I'm hoping my wifi is up to scratch.

This is sounding very promising, Thanks for all the input.
Now all I need is for Alexa to understand our Kiwi accent so we don't have to ask more than once for a simple command....
Changing her from US to Australian helped a bit, but not 100% yet.

And each App can be activated with an Alexa command. So in my Family Room (this is with the free driver):
Alexa, turn on: [Netflix, Amazon, Disney+, Hulu, Acorn, etc.]
Don't have to reach for a tablet, phone, remote, etc. Couldn't be simpler.

I think the "good" driver is paid. It is IP based and Roku has a very good open API. The only thing to beware of is that you can get apps on Roku for everything that you need, including local NZ channels. That is a bit of an issue with one of the Canadian streaming services.

brucecampbell reacted to Matt Lowe in Composer Home Training Course.
My office has started a youtube studio for our products. Since we have the equipment I am looking to invest in the time to creating a composer home training course. To start this will be focused completely for the consumer side and we may do some videos that are dealer specific if it is popular. Just wanted to see whom here may be interested and hopefully I can help you better your own automation and home setup. Below are a few of the topics we are looking to cover. Any suggestions on what you may want us to cover or that i missed? Hope to start filming soon!

Buy yourself some esnipe.
Look at sold prices on search.
Figure out your price. Set bids in esnipe and go about your day. -
brucecampbell reacted to msgreenf in HC800 as a slave
1 it will be fine
2. Not really a consideration. It can be downgraded

Something else to consider is a Global Cache device if you don't need AV, just relays and serial. Like a GC-100.

It retails for $235 Canadian Dollars. No clue what price in NZ but you should be able to get a general idea. Google coverts it to about $270 New Zealand Dollars but I could be wrong.

brucecampbell got a reaction from msgreenf in Contact Sensor *Faults* ?
Turns out the problem was a broken wire.
luckily I had run 6 core alarm cable and had two spare, so I could just change the wire.
The broken wire was still allowing about 2-4 volts, slight fluctuations must have been triggering the contact.

brucecampbell reacted to roger in Apps in your Watch List?
Hi I'm in Auckland too.
I have physical devices in watch list like Roku, DVD, etc but recently I renamed the 'TV' device in Composer to 'Netflix and Apps' in the Watch-List....and I programmed that so that when it's selected, it switched to TV etc, pauses, then selects the apps button on that TV....and goes straight into the apps where Netflix, Lightbox and others are.
This helps a hell of a lot when we have family/guests staying with us, as they have no idea how to access Netflix etc because the remote is a C4 one with no 'apps' button.
C4 owners know exactly what buttons do, what the coloured buttons do, but I feel for guests because they don't have a clue. So I have to show them.
But, what I did above makes it a lot easier now.

brucecampbell reacted to Time2Jet in Apps in your Watch List?
I’m a fan of activity-based intuitive interfaces. I always think first of a guest struggling with a remote or having to work a touchpad.
In my home, on the Watch side, I have television (TiVo, in my case) first, then apps ... in order of my family’s watching habits ...followed by devices toward the bottom. Coming from a Harmony system years ago, I even rename my devices with the word “Watch” in front. (Watch TiVo, Watch Netflix.. etc). Same on the Listen side. But that’s me. I seriously think there’s no right or wrong. A lot of techy guys don’t care so much about intuitive interfaces, but I always try to dumb it down. I even name lighting similarly.
