  1. Agreed. Unfortunately I had a 2 stage system installed a few houses ago back in 2002. Today, efficient systems (ac and heat pumps) are 5 stage or true variable. You can still get a high efficiency gas furnace that is 2 stage burner, but the most efficient gas furnaces are true variable. If I had a multi zone system in my house (and I do) I would only recommend a 5 stage or true variable system with intelligent zone control (meaning the system is monitoring and self-calibrating the air flow to each zone). For Carrier Infinity, one must use the infinity thermostat to get this level of performance. I can only assume the same is true for the highest efficiency units of the other brands.
  2. For the highest efficiency zoned HVAC systems, i strongly recommend the manufacturers thermostat as suggest above. That said, i wonder what it would cost for someone on this forum to write a driver for the larger name brands - in my case carrier infinity. Although I might be naive, i believe there are enough carrier users that would fund such a driver. And the same is likely true for other brands. What am I missing?
  3. I purchased and recently installed a 100 foot Bifale HDMI 2.1 Fiber Optic Cable from AVR to TV. I am now able to set the AppleTV video setting to Dolby Vision and it looks great. The above is my post from a different topic on this forum. I was previously using a high quality passive HDMI 80ft cable and it would not pass Dolby Vision. After installing the above cable, it works great. Although I do not think you need a Fiber Optic cable for 20ft, they are not that expensive and would be very safe, and will easily handle the highest quality video.
  4. I used a ceiling hole saw to cut in about 50 ceiling speakers. The type with cover to catch the dust. My insulation was blown in type. the builder had already prewired for each speaker back to the av closet. When cutting holes, have a 16”x16” x 1” thick bare insulation (no paper backing) for each hole ready. After cutting hole, hold the cut drywall in place, position insulation up against ceiling, let cut drywall circle drop into insulation so you can carefully pull it out, then push the 16x16x1 square insulation gently thru cut hole. This will prevent the blown insulation from falling into room. you can then pull wire and connect to speaker and install speaker up against the insulation as long as speaker manufacturer is good with direct insulation contact which most ceiling speakers are.
  5. Interesting. Does this mean I must use the Wireless Contact Switch with the ELK? Is there no way to wire directly into the contacts on the EA5?
  6. Annoucing our new ADVANCED LIGHTING GROUP driver, now available on DriverCentral at https://drivercentral.io/platforms/control4-drivers/lighting/advanced-lighting-group. You need this driver from @pbir

  8. I would not recommend bypassing the switch and direct wiring all of the Hue lights. It’s really not necessary and as Cyknight says above, your local code may not allow it. What I do with the Hue bulbs in my C4 system is have my C4 switches programmed to not control the load and to simply act as buttons. The load itself is only controlled by programming. I do have the load programmed to a triple tap on one of the buttons so that I can turn it on/off should I want to. But you could even add the switch load to an experience button that is placed in a hidden room that only you access during troubleshooting.
  9. I have a BlueJean BJC Series 1 cable (which is not rated for 4K). I will look into the active fiber HDMI cable. Thank you.
  10. @PorterTX or others. I just upgraded my rack ATV to the 4K model. My theater has the latest sony OLED which is connected to my rack mounted AVR (audio control M9) via an 80’ HDMI cable. My audio including ATMOS is fantastic. I have a few questions on video format and cables: 1. You suggest 4K SDR. Why this over 4K HDR or Dolby Vision? 2. It appears that my HDMI cable does not support Dolby Vision or even 4:4:4 (while using 4K SDR or 4K HDR) 3. All audio is wired direct from my rack amps to the individual speakers, so no audio goes to the tv. I have a conduit and can easily run a new cable from my rack to the tv. What is the recommended best method for video from my AVR (output HDMI) to tv? If HDMI cable, which cable supports the throughput? If IP, which hardware is best?
  11. I realize that revealing secrets is career limiting but someone must know something they can share
  12. This thread has been quiet. We are getting close. Waiting with anticipation.
  13. I have an IO extender in one of my racks (about 3 years old) that I never powered up. I’m now getting close to needing the additional IO’s in my rack and was going to power it up. After reading this, I’m wondering, has the IO Extender been replaced with a different device and if so, what is the newer device? Thank you.
  14. @RyanE @eggzlot @msgreenf can someone please tell me what I would need to do to set up webhooks to interact with C4. I too like this idea for my home office. Hoping I do not need to open up my firewall to make it work. Thanks so much.
  15. It’s only been a few months for me, but my new Qmotions have been very reliable and were very easy to setup. No network drops. I old Qmotions do occasional drop from the network but they always return on their own.
  16. I believe they were similar. I did briefly discuss Lurton with my dealer when I bought the second set of shades this year, but decision was based around staying with what I already had and Qmotions Zigbee integration.
  17. Look at JellyFishLighting.com. They are very nice but not DIY pricing. I plan to have these installed this fall before Thanksgiving/Christmas. I was told that the owners are C4 fans (this is a Utah company) and that there is a C4 driver in the works, but do not take my word on that, and confirm for yourself if you go this route.
  18. I have Qmotion and love them. I installed 10 shades about 3 years ago and another 4 this year. The newer shades run much smoother/quieter. The shades are controlled via zigbee and powered over CAT6. I prewired to all my windows during the build.
  19. No. I have that. I would like to add multiple unique Tidal buttons to play Playlists in certain rooms of the house. This is actually my primary reason for switching to Tidal as it allows programming the play of a playlist. If I am missing something and there is a better way to do this, would love to hear it.
  20. Based on the feedback of how well Tidal integrates with C4 I finally signed up for a Tidal account. As long as the family likes the playlists available in Tidal, I am sure they will all like the ability to start a playlist with one button. @South Africa C4 user I’m asking you because if anyone has it, I think you will :). Do you by chance have a “tidal” experience button, and if so, can you share it?
  21. First choice would be to locate all hardware other than TV in remote closet with active cooling.
  22. While I agree that the DS2 could and should be so much better for the price point and current level of industry technology, I am running the latest firmware and never experience system crashes or hang ups. I do not ever reboot my system unless due to a driver additional or major programming update. Not sure if it makes a difference, but my entire system is on UPS including my entire network and TVs. So while the technology is outdated, the system reliability is high. If you are experience system crashes or freezes, it is likely a network hardware issue, out of date firmware, or possibly a rouge driver that is in your system.
