I´d strictly avoid sats pointing towards your neighbour.

That won´t work. A USB port is not designed to power lighting. Specification goes up to 900mA for USB 3.
Low output LED stripes would have e.g. 9W/m, which would already be double the amount of Ampere (1.800mA) you could get out of a USB port.
An higher output LED stripes can easily go up to 40W/m and more.
I´d also recommend Meanwell for power supply.

That´s the reason why i prefer 24V stripes. 5V only for special applications (pixel stripes).

There are modules for Crestron that provide feedback for Hue lighting using the Hue bridge.
However, you need to poll for status updates: When changing light using the module, status feedback is updated automatically (i guess it justs sends a feedback poll request after sending the light command), but changes from outside the module (e.g. Hue app) are not detected automatically, you have to poll for it (e.g. via a oscillator every couple of seconds).
I´m not suggesting to use Crestron, just pointing out that it seems to be possible to have Hue 2-way. 🙂

There is no upgrade path from the Kickstarter Neeo remote control to make it into a Control4 Neeo Remote.
As mentioned above, the Control4 version, although substantially the same hardware, does have additional flash and ram, and some additional changes.
    Sorry.

Thanks for the feedback.  If Android ever changes to allow us to remove the full screen launch on boot it will certainly be removed.
The only thing that ships with the IRUSB hardware is the card bundled with the device that says, "Video Storm LLC   IRUSB,  For setup instructions visit www.video-storm.com".  Physical instructions just aren't practical for this device.  Plus the online ones are always up to date.
Leaving the IRUSB device plugged into a Shield that DOESN'T have the IRUSB app on it:  Yeah, that isn't a good idea.  It isn't going to break anything though.  The "ghost key press" you observed is actually the device requesting our app, which it must do to ensure the app is always running even if the OS hits bugs or memory issues.
It is hard to anticipate everything users will do.  Funny story (ok, funny to me anyway):  Last week a customer called us to say his IRUSB stopped working.  After going through the basic questions, it turns out he had cut off the IR end of the device "because he doesn't use IR, only IP".  After I explained he just destroyed his device, he was upset that we didn't have a warning in our instructions not to do this.  I then asked him if he had read our instructions, and he said no because he doesn't have time for that.
We do add things like this to our instructions / FAQs when several people encounter the same issue.  For IRUSB in particular, the most important "do not do" is "Don't use the Amazon ethernet adapter (for Fire stick)".  We put this all over the instructions, and yet 25% of the support tickets for fire stick are this issue.....

I´m 100% ripping to main-movie-MKVs using MakeMKV in a docker container with a USB-UHD-drive connected directly to the UNRAID-server the MakeMKV-Docker is running.
You can even configure it for auto-ripping: you insert a disc, main-movie is ripped, then disc-tray opens.
I don´t need all the additional stuff on the discs and i´am tired of all the trailers before the actual movie starts.

I understand that the IRUSB app is required for the IRUSB hardware to function. It's an Android limitation. That was never in question. I don't understand why the IRUSB hardware continuously sends key commands that make the Android host device unusable before the IRUSB app is installed. I also don't understand why there aren't better instructions the the box stating "Do not install IRUSB hardware until IRUSB app has been installed from app store. Android device will not function properly if IRUSB hardware in installed without IRUSB app first being installed." Better yet, the hardware should ship with firmware that doesn't cause the "ghost remote key press" issue. The first priority should be "do no harm." I understand why the IRUSB app auto-launches and why it must display a full-screen page. It's an Android limitation. That was never in question. I don't understand why IRUSB app chooses to show such a user-unfriendly splash screen when it auto-launches. A user-first approach would be "Dear user, we're sorry this splash screen is interrupting your experience, but it's required for your device to interface with your remote control and home automation system. You can now press the back button to return to the main screen. (Oh, and if you'd like to learn more about our other products, please click here.)" A user-unfriendly approach would be "There's no obvious reason why the screen is being displayed, so let's take this chance to show some ads that makes things more confusing." Let me give an example of how this experience manifested itself last night. It was completely unplanned because it was the first time the Shield has been rebooted since installing IRUSB, but it demonstrates how the user experience could be better.
I start watching a TV show on Plex with my wife and daughter. About 30 minutes in, a Plex error message pops up. Rebooting is generally the universal fix, so I show my wife and daughter how to do that if it ever happens again and I'm not around.  I reboot from the Shield menu using the the Shield remote Device reboots, I open Plex, we resume watching the show A few minutes later, the IRUSB pop-up screen happens Before I can say or do anything, the comments start flying: Daughter: "What just happened? Dad, I think you need to reboot again." Wife: "It looks like a 4th grader made a powerpoint" Daughter: "It has 2 exclamation points, so I'm definitely going to buy it." Wife: "Why is there are a 'VS' in the corner? Are two people getting ready to fight each other like in that old video game?" Me: "Sorry, this is happens a few minutes after a reboot. I could explain why but you don't care. Just ignore it and exit back to Plex." If I hadn't been there, my daughter probably would have pushed buttons until things returned to normal, but my wife would have called me and asked what to do to make sure she didn't mess anything up. Please don't misinterpret the intent of my comments. The purpose is to highlight ways to improve the customer experience to make the product more user-friendly and desirable. It's difficult to develop hardware, software, and a great user experience. This is constructive feedback to help identify opportunities for improvement.

Zappiti is my current favourite.  I’ve been developing drivers for media players for years and this is just plug and play with automatic library management integrated into Control4 for selection on any Control4 navigator.
Supporting almost all video and audio formats, codecs and file containers, including all modern video standards such as HDMI 2.0, Ultra HD 4K, HDR, 3D subtitles and HEVC video codec with one billion colors (10-Bit color encoding), the Zappiti 4K HDR media player range sets an entirely new standard.
The top class Zappiti Duo 4K HDR is equipped with an internal 3.5" SATA HDD bay with hot swap function for huge total capacity (up to 32 TB) and offers powerful Wi-Fi 5G and Ethernet gigabit network capability.
The Zappiti 4K HDR media players are compatible with most audio and video formats such as UHD ISO, BD ISO, M2TS, MKV 4K, MVC 3D with 3D subtitles, BD and UHD menus support, home theater audio (including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X) and high-resolution lossless audio files

The "attractive, user-friendly splash screen" is a great suggestion. The existing splash screen is pure confusion for end users. It makes it look like the device has been hacked by ad-ware. It should look like specialized control software the user paid to have installed by a smart home professional.

I resolved the problem from reading some other posts on this forum about hum. I plugged both the EA5 and the Control4 amplifier into the same surge protector so they are plugged into the same wall outlet and that completely eliminated the hum.

Maybe as the OP I’ll try and end this thread. I think everyone here is correct and I’m not sure why everyone is arguing so much. The chaotic and fragile world we live today and more than ever there are so many bigger issues out there we could all spend our energy.

When I started this thread 2 years ago I was at the beginning of my automation journey. I’m in Australia and was already down a path using  Schneider Electric Clipsal CBUS for the lighting backbone. Why - I really like their switch plates especially their eDLTs. Also it’s hard to argue against it being a mature and robust wired solution and this was a new build allowing physical cabling. It has also been around forever and has great local support in Australia. Was there a better choice for the backbone - maybe. But I was already on this path.

Before I started this thread and some on other specialist forums seeking advice I was suggested to only use CBUS for automation. And while Schneider Electric Clipsal CBUS does have various automation controllers it seemed to me that they haven’t invested the $s to make a complete user friendly automation interface. I’ve got their NAC as part of my system and it serves a purpose in the backend. But their Wiser product feels incomplete to me. They also bought Push Controls a few years ago and that’s been “coming soon” with a new version forever. 2 years later and it seems the products are both no further along in development. Maybe I’m wrong.

So I think everyone here in this thread is correct. CBUS I think can do it all but from a UI perspective something like Control4 on top makes it much better for me. That’s my personal opinion.

I really wanted a single app interface to bring the different components together. While I don’t mind tinkering myself the system needed to be somewhat “grandma friendly”. From my research and using both Control4 and Savant in person both seemed like really great systems. In the end I went with Savant as that’s the direction my builder and integrator were heading. Control4 would have done the job just as well I think and thank you to this forum for a lot of really useful information and advice.

To close off this thread here is my final system.
CBUS for backend lighting, blind control and shutter control. CBUS GPOs, wall switches including eDLTs SE powertags for breaker level energy monitoring  Large PV system and 200kwh battery system with panel level TIGO optimizers/monitoring SE PLC for power management and load shedding CAT8 wired throughout connected to a Ubiquiti Unifi network using the dream machine pro with a fiber wan connection Ness M1. Also used to send a trigger to a fire suppression system based on heat sensor and thermal camera input. The M1 is probably the “oldest” component of the system but again it’s robust and been around a long time was part of the decision 2N access control and electric strikes for all locks including their commander system  Coolmaster for HVAC VRF control AXIS cameras connected to their network DVR A/V I’ve got Sonos throughout, appletvs and a combination of integra receivers and Sonance indoor/outdoor speakers and amplifiers. A motorised projector and screen and otherwise a some gallery style flat panels Amazon Alexa in ceiling locations. Will be interesting to see how that one works with everything else  Miele WiFi applicances. This one I do think was likely a waste of money
Over the top - yes. The best out there - that’s personal opinion but probably not. Will it work - I hope so.  Will I need degrees in electrical engineering and software development to operate - hopefully not. Would I do it differently next time - almost definitely.

Thank you again to this forum for all the help and advice. I spent hours reading material on this forum. CBUS can do automation. Systems like Savant and Control4 can do it better from a user experience in my humble personal opinion. Control4 is a great system and would have worked for me even though it’s not what I finally used. I might use it next time.

I hope this thread might help someone in the future thinking of doing a complete over the top system. Maybe it doesn’t.

Well, but this has nothing to do with Cbus. It looks to me that Logicmachine is just a control system sitting on top of different sub systems (like CBus, KNX, Loxone, 1-Wire, BACnet, etc.).
Similar to Control4, Crestron, RTI, etc.
So the functionality to control e.g. a Sony TV lies in the Logicmachine system, not in CBus.
I think this is probably where the confusion comes from.

EDIT: Oh, i´ve just found a (the)  "native" C-Bus automation controller. So no need to link to Logicmachine. => https://www.clipsal.com/products/detail?CatNo=5500NAC&tab-document-1=0 🙂

And...still no HBO Max on Amazon or Roku.  And now add Peacock TV to the list of stuff that doesn't show up at launch on either of those.  So with streaming, you still get the platform / provider wars where the users are pawns, and you can't even skip commercials.  And in the Control4 ecosystem you give up a lot of control as you always have compared to, for example, DirecTV.  Can we go back to linear TV and DVRs now?

Indeed. But the interface is what end-users have to deal with, and one shoe doesn't fit all.
Understand that I prefer the C4 method over Crestron in this, more so with the improvement they've introduced in and since 3.0.
SOOOOOO often those (dealers/installers - and I'm in no way saying OP is one of these!!) that rave about Crestron and other's ability to modify and customize interfaces are downright terrible at doing so (either it looks pretty abut works poorly, or gets so convoluted that it has a huge learning curve - or just plain looks ugly).
Reality is that most programmers cannot do graphic design, and most graphic designers cannot program (and a lot of either one are convinced they can do both).
Add to this that neither are commonly good at interpreting/translating end-user needs and requests to what is actually required.
To me this is where Control4 outclasses Crestron - they've taken away that 3-way clash (function, graphics/design and need/want) by having a well-designed user interface that cannot be messed with too much.
Oh sure there's things that could be improved, but it's a delicate balance to maintain between allowing some customization to fill needs of some and ensuring the interface is easy to use and set up.
But there are those (end-users) to whom full customization of the interface is the most important aspect of all (or at least they think it is) - so there's room for both.
