I think the poster's point is that the entire system can't be upgraded, even though the HC800 is just performing an ancillary function.  Like you can't upgrade the top of rack switch because one of the servers in the rack is EOL.
I don't see any problem with sunsetting 10 year old stuff, but I can understand finding annoyance with this result.

The guy literally said his policy was to deny these requests.

it seems that both sides pretty much agree on what happened. People can just pick their side. I’ll pick the side of the person who didn’t want to pay for something they already purchased.

I get that certain end users (like .1%) may be put off by the policies, but that's why competitors exist. If you don't like the policy, buy somewhere else. There are some open source DIY projects that might like more tech-savvy people to join.

That attitude toward end users probably has nothing to do with last quarter's $22m SnapOne loss....

    Hello,
As a relatively new C4 customer I’ve found this discussion to be informative. I must admit I’m constantly searching the web looking at ways to better integrate my home/programming ideas etc. (I’m trying to learn Composer HE).  I was recently looking to add some 3rd party drivers to my system but now realize it’s a little more complicated the I would ever have realized. I will have to do more homework.

I”m glad to see C4 get some recognition too. But obviously these awards, like most “industry” awards, are totally bullshit. That is all the more true when Neeo—a product that was not innovative by definition—is the so-called “product of the year.”

Yep, got the Paladin DCR, it's absolutely stunning.  Changing modes is a PITA and like you will be routing through the color buttons.

No update that I'm aware of, but as a fellow NX7 owner, I found a solution here.  Drawing on work done by a very knowledgeable guy at the AVS Forums, I have the raw IR Codes for both Anamorphic C and Anamorphic D modes, that I added to the current Driver.  I assigned those to a couple of the numeric buttons on my SR260, and it works perfectly.  I also have the Panamorph DCR Lens, and can now switch back and forth with ease.
I can supply those codes if you'd like.

    No problem.
I'm guessing you are also using an Anamorphic Lens - if so, which one?  I'm using the DCR Lens, and the picture quality with this and the NX7 is stunning!

No remote backlighting is a huge mistake.  I don’t think there has ever been a C4 remote without backlighting and I’m sure C4 wouldn’t design one without it.  However C4 made the decision to sell the Neeo remote “as is” due to the ease to get to market with the existing design.  There is a reason the original Neeo didn’t succeed and needed to be acquired and it was only partially due to their software.

Many users would overlook these issues if the remote was sold at its original Kickstarter price, however the current price assumes a flawless execution on design.

I'd consider buying it if I didn't have to replace my HC250/SpeakerPoint and upgrade to 3.0.  It probably limits my C4 spending moving forward.

    1.  Will dedicated mode be added back to OS3 app?
    2.  Any collaboration with Carrier/Bryant to add IP controllable drivers for there HVAC systems?  The paid driver is nearly impossible to have installed and homeation has terrible customer support.

"Do you want to be rich selling to the poor or poor selling to the rich?"   Great line, @chesterwilson.
I've heard it said this way: "Sell to people who ride in limos, you ride in subways.  Sell to people who ride in subways, you ride in limos"
So true. Years of developing/selling software taught me this over-and-over.  I wish I had listened and understood earlier.
Despite GIYF, I couldn't find an attribution for the subway line.
C4 will continue to struggle financially without a DIY offering that lives in symbiosis with the dealer model.  IMHO.

SnapAV will need to bridge that divide if they want to grow.

    Control4 sold itsself because:

There was not the expected revenue and growth

Major shareholders wanting to cash in and they increased the pressure after stock price plummeted and Neo acquisition will cost resources.

Why did Control4s reven and growth not meet expectations?

    My 2c:

1 - the dealer only model does not attract new customers. It is limiting Control4 growth - I am sure of that. It's the major thing holding Control4 back.

2 - Entry costs are still high. HW needs to be cheaper and 4sight needs to be mandatory, maybe in different levels between 50 and 200$ per year depending on project sizes

3 - Lack of innovation. OS3 took ages and Control4 still doesn't support media management via web, support of TV series and ZigBee 3 is nowhere be seen...and I am not even talking about voice recognition.....

Dealers should realize that DiY will likely make them more money in the end as it lowers the entry cost and if systems get larger they are back in the game.

So let's see what SnapAV makes out of it....
