RobbieF reacted to Cyknight in Mesh Wifi Options
MESH networking can mean three things:
-HARDWIRED APs that work as a mesh for hand-over
-Wireless EXTENDERS that repeat the signal
-A Hybrid of the two.
As a
you should already know the answer as to why two of the above are not proper setup in general.
If by MESH you mean the one that is 'proper' then that as such isn't an issue.
ORBI router in particular is know to have C4 devices fall off-line or not ID at all (multi-cast, SDDP, SIP and UPnP issues if memory serves)

RobbieF reacted to lippavisual in Mesh Wifi Options
Get rid of the mesh wifi. Most likely that is your culprit. Multicast is basically lost on those systems and that's what C4 relies on.
Return it and get proper networking gear.

That's a good suggestion. I run cable and ATT, but the LTE suggestion is solid. You can do this really cheap these days or it really is a lot less expensive than in the past.

Instead of a cloud key gen2. Another alternative is to get a Unifi dream machine pro for not much more . This would give 8 switch ports plus has the controller software built in and you would not need the USG.

Yeah - The AP's can be connected to the core switch, makes sense. And yes, putting in the USG Gateway segments your network within your control. Upstream provided equipment is then just "hot Swappable" - As the WAN port / ports are configured for DHCP, and don't care about what is upstream, as long as it gets an IP address. You also end up with full visibility of the network within the UniFi stack:
Definitely get a Cloudkey Gen2

This would be the ideal Network Topology. However, dependent on the Physical cabling location, this could change.
At the price point - Keep with a flat network, using all UniFi managed switches for visibility.
I'm also using 30mb down and 10mb up - It's more than enough for streaming Netflix and browsing simultaneously. Have 4 working adults in my house all been served via this connection. With regards to QOS - I always say, don't create solutions for problems you don't have Unless you are telling me you're experiencing other problems?

Made a "Happy birthday" (Or cake day for those across the pond) scene in the rooms we most commonly celebrate the Kitchen and Keeping (Den off the Kitchen). Takes snapshot, Lowers shades, dims lights, stops music/TV/ etc for 1 min to sing, then all goes back way it was. I need to find a 30 sec mp3 or wave of Happy Birthday and I'll add in that announcement too.

Keep in mind that you will need the Lutron Radio Ra 2 Select Bridge to make louvered blinds and shades work with Control4.

RobbieF reacted to robbie3130 in Lutron Venetian Blinds
Should add - Graber has models with Somfy motors, sure those would work too.

RobbieF reacted to Unsocialtoaster in Triad Garden Array Satellite Speaker -- Thoughts?
Yes, sat/sub systems are designed to give you good coverage of an area without having to crank the volume up and annoy the neighbours. You could put a sat at each corner of the table patio, or all along the flower bed, and the sub in the flower bed too, that should be plenty to cover the Dining area.
That looks like a really great space you have btw!

RobbieF reacted to Köhler Medientechnik in Triad Garden Array Satellite Speaker -- Thoughts?
I would place the sats along the fence, pointing towards the table, away from your neighbour.
I´d strictly avoid sats pointing towards your neighbour.

The dealer, or the DS2 ? I'm not a fan of the DS2, but yours is an easy fix.
If you aren't happy with your dealer, then get a new one. There are some incredibly talented remote dealers right here on this forum. Better value, and almost certainly better programmers.

Absolutely. And it sure sounds like it is in the works. Hoping for major changes.

A driver / function for Control4 that allows one to call a screen (other than the home screen) and fill it with buttons like the old Neeo driver did would be a pretty cool Software update for us gen 1 users (even if it cannot be done on the home screen per se). I currently use the default menus (numbers and transport controls etc.) for some sources and for other sources I execute the home command and use the first 6 experience buttons in the room (which I have set to be buttons that are useful for some of my devices in a configuration I like - clearly 12 buttons would beat 6). I have even played around with changing the logos (emojis) on these buttons on the fly for different sources using the Blackwire Emoji driver. It is pretty cool just slightly slow / clunky to update as one changes sources.

Didn't even notice the new sessions icon until i read this... lol! Totally stoked it's here now, and making the Neeo a must have

RobbieF reacted to South Africa C4 user in NEEO - Needs access to sessions
The biggest problem that I have with the Neeo remote (after 5 or 6 months) is that cool new features are released and I don’t realize it until a few days later!

felt like the neeo need a little bit extra power under the hood. but its not a KO criterion.
i still like it a lot

RobbieF reacted to Cyknight in "Experience Buttons" - Can you educate me?
Heavy question really. This could contain page upon page of use options etc. I'll try and give a bit of an overview.
First, always remember that experience buttons can be displayed in many menus by choice, so you have more freedom in where they show up.
Let's start breaking them out first into a few 'types' if you will:
*"Basic" built for purpose options. These are really basic options, generally they fall under the UI buttons catagory. No real programming function, but added to enhance visual options and diversity.
Examples are PS4, HDMI, Component, Cassette, Chromecast and so on.
*"Standard" built for one purpose ones. Often these are 'enhanced' re-builds of drivers that already existed for simple function, with added option, though sometimes they add enhancements to the overall system or are used to 'display' a function in an alternate (or more advanced) way to using the more basic screen custom buttons.
A lot of these allow using switches as 'relays' directly, removing the need for funky programming, and add timer features
Examples are Fireplace, Fountain, (Garage) Door, (Ceiling/Extract) Fan, Pump, Door Auto Lock...you get the idea
*"Advanced" built for purpose options. These are more work to setup, as they offer more options/settings or in some cases you need multiple to cover a whole project. They generally exist to make advanced programming easier to do, keep it more contained and/or to give an interface to some advanced programming options.
Examples are RGB Light (select and display color of an RGB light), Announcement On/Off (per room ability to 'block' announcements), Mockupancy Driver, Security (would have preferred the term Courtesy) Light, Snapshot, etc
*"Special" built for purpose options are drivers that are very purpose specific. These genreally ONLY work on T3 screens (and in Composer) at this point.
Examples are Calendar, Notepad, To Do
*"Fun" drivers. More built to test the limits than anything. Ask your dealer to add Clumsy Bird or 2048 - just don't hold me or him/her responsible.
*"3rd Party device" drivers. More and more advanced drivers (or suites) are starting to use experience buttons.
Examples are Ecobee and Powerview drivers
*"Generic" buttons. There are a few very generic buttons, that you can use freely for anything you want, which is I'm guessing largely what you're asking about.
Examples are Countdown, Status UI, Scenario (RGB sort of falls in this category too I suppose)
These last ones are primarily used to give the end user better insight and/or control over often asked functions.
Some programming examples I've done for clients or myself:
*Count Down:
-Instead of All Off on button press, touchscreen has the option of displaying this (and you can tie it to buttons as well) where there's a countdown to all the lights turning off. So when I'm leaving the house, I press it from my T3 and I have several minutes to actually get out the door, the garage, close everything off and so on.
-Activate it at bed time. Once it's up, all TVs shut off. Again, nothing that couldn't be done in programming already on a button press, but now you have visual feedback.
*Status UI
-As it gives feedback by way of a color 'led' on it, I've used these often to indicate whether multiple optional override programming is on or off and to control it at the same time), ie Exterior lighting schedule is running regular on green, vacation mode on yellow, party mode on blue, off on red.
-Indication of certain events having occured. Used it in one place to indicate which motions were triggered during a day, if doors were unlocked during the day or night when they normally wouldn't be, etc. Similar to what some do using button LED colors, but now on touchscreens.
*Scenario is a basic on/off only version of the Status UI, though it has one significant twist - it was designed to make it easy for dealers to create alternate versions using custom items for the on/off state. There's a few of these around for sale with huge packs of them (Blackwire has one, think Chowmain did one too). These are often liked becasue it will also give a direct status feedback using the different icons, so you can see when a source device is in use. Think, if someone is using the Switch, you see that under the screens in other rooms without having to check the zones page.

Hey C4Forums Community. I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Jonathan Brown, I work for Control4(SnapAV) Customer Interface group. I am a Senior Software Engineer on the iOS team. I plan on spending time in the forums off and on to check in to see if I can help troubleshoot and resolve posts where I can and or direct your issues that might need additional help to others in our organization who might have more of an impact on issues I see being posted. I am looking to be a resource to help solve as many community issues as I can.

This works great!!!! Thank you!
It does baffle me how this isn't standard functionality as part of Intercom Anywhere though...

So...I am not sure if you win this bet or I do... I have refrained from buying one so far... but, I just heard today that someone is gifting me one for Christmas (don’t ask... it does probably mean that I spend too much money somewhere!) and I am now as excited as a kid in a candy store because it is going to be an early Christmas gift and I should have it in the next week or so 😁
