I've been running Plex on a Synology NAS for many years. Moved over from Kaliedescape and never looked back. I stream 4K mostly all direct play without a problem. Only issues will relate to transcoding, and with SD or DVD you should be fine if you had to.
I also have Plex on the Sinology set up for my DLNA music. So you have additional choices.
And if you like to geek out, there's good chances you can run other apps in docker at the same time.

I don’t think they are releasing the new hardware until after the new year. The  programming software is available now, however.

    What I like:
The physical light switches that can be engraved. They are more tactile than the completely flat Lutron switches. I have lots of 4 gang switches that could use engraving. But then again, not sure four C4 dimmers would fit w/o overheating. (I defer to others for this.) The dealers here on the forum are responsive and talented. SR-260 Wand Remote -- although it looks outdated, it works and is a lot better than a NEEO in my opinion. I own both and the NEEO just sits there looking pretty. Works with a lot of stuff, even competing products like Lutron. So far Control4 OS updates have been "free" -- but you have to pay a dealer to do the upgrade. You don't have to go all-in. (See below about cost) I have an EA-3 controller, SR-260 remote, NEEO remote and that's all. The rest are more economical or better performing products that integrate into C4. What I don't like:
Good local dealers can be hard to find and not responsive. All-in costs for a whole-home system can be very expensive. "Approved" WiFi and networking hardware can be expensive but necessary to make it work well. No voice control or voice passthrough on the C4 remotes. Therefore I pick up the Dish remote to tune to obscure channels or the AppleTV remote to make Siri requests. No integrated geo-fencing that I'm aware of.  NEEO isn't zigbee, so WiFi dependent. Airplay solution is laggy. Audio hardware is overpriced for what it is.

Thanks to Mitch @msgreenf for recognizing that I was due a free replacement and many thanks to Ari @chopedogg88 for making it happen, SnapAV replaced my defective unit free of charge.
I can't thank you guys enough. I'd be out of the C4 game if it weren't for Ari and all the dealers willing to help on this forum.

It’s a great idea.  But it probably hurts their sales.  That is why you cannot “easily” do intercom on an ipad or android tablet because it will hurt T4 sales.  Making a TV with an OSD app would hurt sales of touch screens, remotes and EA controllers - all other ways to get OSD or just interact with the system in general.  I am sure the phone app hurts sales enough but is “expected” to be competitive in the industry.
Video storm does have their Splash Tiles that can interact and show status of devices in C4 and has two way communication ability.  So you have that option.

Emmy noms mean nothing to the public,  and one show isn't a hook.
I can tell you this - I happen to have had that very question (do you have an ATV+ subscription) go around 3 different social circle of mine just last week, and the net result was ... ZERO out of a 100 or so people. I've been asking clients because of that this past week ... I'm at 1 out of 14 (households, and every last one of them Apple users) Wife's work ZERO out of 15.

I'm well aware that I'm personally no indicator of what's popular for streaming services or shows -heck no idea what Ted Lasso even is, and no I never watched Game of Thrones- but I know plenty of 'trend followers' (slaves?) and there's zero response on use.

Last I checked the service has less than 5% of the market share in NA, lower than later additions, including Peacock of all things - and a lot of that is BECAUSE it was free if I had to guess.
I've even heard the excuse for the low market share that it was due to the pandemic (when it should have boomed if anything).
EDIT: I should add, I'm not saying ATV+ is bad, or will disappear, just commenting that if it's 'hooked' they were after so they can retire the hardware line .... they better hold onto the box for a bit yet.

The question for me is if they'll port the iPhone/Mac integration to the app. I know I'm in the minority, but we actually use the Photos app.

I read about it and actually used their product to scan my network and it should a password breach and I had to update my firmware. I want my home smart home experience and still feel safe because i cannot be connecting them to a vlan for the sake of security when I to check in on my loved ones remotely while I am away.

I’m not sure if someone has addressed the level lock and android “issue”. It will work with android. It’s Bluetooth. It won’t connect to anything but HomeKit for home automation integrations. And the battery lasts a LONG time. I have two. I have had one since 2018. Replaced the battery once. It’s been over a year and that battery is currently at 57%. New lock installed 5 months ago. It’s at 89%. There are two battery settings. One for longer range. Using that setting will drain the battery a little faster...  it’s a GREAT lock, easy to install and operate.

It's ridiculous that Control4 does not come with inbuilt support for fundamental features like Google Cast and built-in Alexa/Google Assistant/Siri integration (i.e. without having to rely on Echo devices).

I have a Home Theater, using a 'scope' (2.35:1 aspect ratio) screen.  It is ideal for watching most movies, which usually have that same aspect ratio.  But some movies, and a lot of regular TV and streaming content have 'narrower' aspect ratios: 1.78:1, 1.85:1, 2.00:1, 2.20:1 and so forth.  When viewing this type of content on a scope screen, of necessity, there are black 'pillarbox' bars on each side.  Even with a good screen and projector, these areas will appear grayish rather than black, which has a negative impact on the perceived picture quality.  So many of us utilize 'masking' solutions of one type or another, to blacken those areas.
When I initially set up the Theater, I installed 2 curtain rods, one on each side, hanging black velvet curtains from them.  I could then draw them in to cover those pillarbox bars, which enhances the picture quality significantly.  But I tired of having to go up there to draw them in, open them up, etc.  First world problems, for sure!
So I ended up installing a motorized curtain track, hanging the black velvet curtains from them.  This comes with an RF remote to open, close, and stop the curtain movement.  I then obtained a Bond Bridge to replicate the RF commands, integrating this into Control4 with the Chowmain Bond Bridge Driver.  I was then able to create "presets" for each aspect ratio, by issuing a 'Close' command, followed by a Delay of the appropriate number of milliseconds, and then a Stop command.  I use an SR260 in this room, and assigned these presets to numeric buttons on the remote, since they aren't used for anything else in that room.  I can then close to the appropriate position for whatever I'm watching with the push of a button.
I am also using the madVR Envy, an external Video Processor, which among its other functions, will recognize the content's aspect ratio, and automatically scales the video output to maximally fill the screen.  They will eventually have a Control4 Driver, and I'm hoping that I can program it using this Driver such that the appropriate curtain preset will be triggered based on the content's aspect ratio, making the process completely automatic.
Here's a simple YouTube Video showing it in action:

Elvis got a reaction from nukenerd in Lutron Serena Roller Shades
Just installed two Serena shades. They are battery powered because they are mounted on two French doors. Very impressive. Very quiet. Silent almost. Being able to mount them right no the door was a big plus.
There were a few things that made a positive impression. The ease of installation was surprising. But the ease of integration and setup was brilliantly easy. I have the Lutron Smartbridge Pro so I used the Lutron app to set it up. Push button easy. Adjusting the shade limits simple. Pairing them with a single Pico remote to operate both at once, super easy. Scheduling very easy. Homekit integration automatic. Alexa integration automatic.
There are two major downsides: Price... Over $700 each for a 24 inch by 54 inch blackout roller shade. One French door was over $1400. And that's a discounted price. The other major downside was the lack of a local dealer to measure and install. When you spend that much money and have to hope you didn't screw it up, pretty stressful. Once you pull the trigger on the order, they are yours no matter what. Even though installation was easy, add up the price and having to do it yourself, it just seems to make them more costly. Last house the dealer showed up with samples, wife picked what she wanted, and a few weeks later they delivered and installed them -- all manual shades. Did the whole house, which included 9 exterior doors, for what one room of Serenas would have been.
My advice: Don't buy one if you can't afford to buy a lot of them -- almost addictive.

I am very happy with them, and I am going to purchase two more of them from Dawn. For motorization and integration, I'm not sure you can beat Lutron. We've seen a few brands in showrooms and they weren't nearly as quiet or nearly as easy to change batteries.
There are two issues and cost is one, but the price is consistent across brands (except for Ikea's where you have one color choice.) So buying motorized just means $$$ -- it is not Lutron specific.
The main issue is that the buyer has to measure and install, and there are no mulligans. If you screw it up, there is a 100% re-stocking fee.
For the price of four motorized shades, we purchased non-motorized for the rest of the house. And they came out with large samples to show in place, measured every window, and wrote up the quote. When they come in, they install them all and if something doesn't fit, they replace it at no charge.
    Hope this helps.

I actually did do it again. All the motorized shades in the house will be Serena. If the house hadn't been bare with no window coverings at all, I would have motorized a lot more of them, spreading out the cost over time. Since I just retired, I was too chicken to write the big check required to motorize more of them.

I ended up buying 3 more of these from @DawnGordon and still super happy.
We did find two great local dealers. So that allowed us to price shop and see other options. And Dawn is right, when you actually compare apples to apples (same fabric, same valance) the prices are very comparable. And even when the dealer is super helpful, you have to actually see the price written down to get the real number. I mean they are selling, so it I get it -- but what's said on the showroom floor usually doesn't equal what is written down when it comes down to placing an order. "Oh, you want THAT fabric" and "Oh, you want it motorized, that's right..." and next thing you know you are very close to the same price. For me, since my system is running on Lutron, it was an easy decision.
We bought the remaining blinds from The Blind Place in Tyler. And there is definitely value added when they show up and install them... a LOT of them.
Of the motorized shades we saw, the Serena were still noticeably quieter.
