I am unsure of what difficulties this companies had with Orbi but it sounds like they may not have enough network experience? Maybe just unfamiliar. Which Orbi are we talking about? There are consumer and pro grade varieties. "Mesh" systems like this generally allow better/omi directional coverage versus a traditional RF cone w/ceiling mount AP.  I use Obri pro as my main WiFi "mesh" system if the budget allows and I have a Pro 6 as my current router and central AP w/ a hardwired outdoor AP and mesh sat. (which includes internal 4 port switch).  I have systems with 4+ of these, all hard-lined or a combination of these towers, managed switches and traditional APs in hardwire and mesh formats. They have caused zero issues Control4 client systems.  Even with consumer models clients purchase without my advisement.

Iv been open on here about Rukus and generally thinking its over priced but certainly won't be disappointed performance wise. Im also a big Ubiquity guy...though they have been making interesting management changes. I like to practice proper networking techniques so 1 AP cranked on high isn't my favorite design even in a square footprint. Im sure you will get good connection all around but the idea of high performance wifi is multiple close proximity APs if you really want to take advantage of high throughput speeds all round the house. WiFi5/6 makes this pretty easy with some good metering.

I would tend to agree with @Control4Savant (that's a first  ) that if you only have these few light switches no reason to stick with c4.  I would buy them all from you and I would go with TP-Link honestly for simple wifi switches.  But IDK what your end game is - what your goals are?  Can we get your c4 stuff working, of course!  But is it the right solution? TBD

If you want to stay with the system I agree, you should stay far away from whatever dealer you had stop by and either work with someone here or try another local dealer. Even though they "represent" Control4 in reality they are just an normal AV/Tech company that can pull whatever stunts they feel like.  IMO I would buy Lutron Casesta stuff and have a local electrician swap them out for not to much cost. You can sell the C4 stuff on eBay or here if you want to return some investment. You can leave the thermostats in and manually control them until you want to upgrade those to something else. Theres really no value investing in Control4 for you if you want to stick to a small and simple system. 

TL;DR: stop asking for improvements.

I have a 2n Video Kit - and I believe the DS2 is basically a rebranded 2n device too.  Mine falls offline with C4 communication - no rhyme or reason, it just does....In Composer HE there is a button that says "auto configure" and if I press that it all goes back to working just fine.  When I was on an older version of the driver it was worse as I had to type in some LUA code.  now I just need to press a button.  Frustrating yes - sometimes when it goes offline I get no video/audio on T3's and no door ring sounds in the house, but sometimes I get the doorbell rings on the T3, just no video feed.  All odd.  It probably has to do with the C4 SIP implementation but it is what it is I suppose.  Hopefully a lot of this was fixed with the Chime, but given the hole I have in my house/brick, replacing what I got with the Chime is not an option.

Be honest I would probably have gone towards Savant if C4 charged an annual fee unless they give you hardware with x years contract.

Thanks, I will have to look into that.  Currently I don't pull anything directly from the Ambient, in the Ambient setup I have it dumping data to Wunderground and everything else came through their.

Set up both a PurpleAir PM2.5 air quality sensor and an Ambient Weather Station AWS-2902.  Both are feeding data into my home automation system and firing automations, such as firing up indoor air filters plugged into cheap zwave plugs when the AQI tanks.

I’d leave C4 for your use case. It’s not that many light switches. Spend your money installing Lutron Caseta replacements, and you’ll never look back. 

That’s an ‘interesting’ conversation to have with customers who wonder why their old Ring camera iOS app worked better than their new $50k fancy home automation system.  
 
Likewise the conversation regarding the hardware limitations in respect of camera viewing.  ‘But I thought this was the latest and greatest…’

Seriously.  ‘Legacy technical debt’ is right up there with ‘known unknowns’ and ‘alternative truth’.  

Optimally, rip it out.  Smart lighting is not that complicated - just move to zwave like Inovelli, or if you must have a dealer system, get Lutron or what have you.  For me, house 1 is HA overlaid on Control4 lighting. House 2 is pure Home Assistant, and zwave+ lighting controlled by HA.  Both are trouble free.
I'm sure Control4 could revise the Rest API to break the integration, but this would require them to rearchitect their own apps too.  Given they still haven't managed to integrate the intercom into the app, hard to get worried about them doing anything to the app  

Indeed.  But apparently you can use it to give a shout out to your favorite bugs/missing features, which is nice.
Better handling of security cameras please.  Telling customers on Day1 of their Control4 experience that they are better off viewing cameras in a separate app feels a bit of a punch in the face. Intercom still flaky after all these years. +1 on color wheel If only these were 'legacy technical debt'. 🤣

Fair but you are locked into 3 equal buttons and 2 smaller buttons.  Grant it its $50.  but like you said no engravings/backlighting and with the c4 keypad you can do various configs to get to up to 6 buttons.  I also see press 1x or press/hold, do not see 2x or 3x presses to get different commands.
Again C4 and Lutron lights are premium, pay a price but you get features.  For $50 what you are linking to isnt bad, but its still some features short.  Is that worth $200 to people, well that is for them to decide which is the beauty of capitalism. 

Yeah its not like Control4 has ever used undocumented API's to talk to devices before......

This is absolutely the way that they should be going.  This is the way things work with the Unifi Controller and I don't see any reason why C4 couldn't be the same.  And not just for a Navigator, also for Composer HE.

how would I know what your business hours are? Your on vacation great but how would I know that? So you don’t need to be condescending. Every time you worked on our c4 system I was professional with you and never questioned your pricing, or your work. All I ask for is some sort of communication so I can know if your working or not.

Agree and why would you want to give up the Protect functionality which is really good with good IOS functionality.    Just run a RTSP stream via C4 if you want but honestly I rarely use my RTSP streams.
