That’s an ‘interesting’ conversation to have with customers who wonder why their old Ring camera iOS app worked better than their new $50k fancy home automation system.

Likewise the conversation regarding the hardware limitations in respect of camera viewing.  ‘But I thought this was the latest and greatest…’
’Well it is, but if you wouldn’t mind just downloading this weird NVMS app onto your iPhone it will be… better.’
Seriously.  ‘Legacy technical debt’ is right up there with ‘known unknowns’ and ‘alternative truth’.

Indeed.  But apparently you can use it to give a shout out to your favorite bugs/missing features, which is nice.
Better handling of security cameras please.  Telling customers on Day1 of their Control4 experience that they are better off viewing cameras in a separate app feels a bit of a punch in the face. Intercom still flaky after all these years. +1 on color wheel If only these were 'legacy technical debt'. 🤣

Not to mention bringing back a C4 Apple Watch app (which is still advertised in places despite not working since OS3 came out) and fixing the responsiveness issues on iOS, especially as it pertains to how long it takes Sessions to respond.

Thanks.  The automation is easy using the navigation agent.  Would take a dealer 5 minutes - Basically, WHEN (doorbell is pushed), the navigation agent selects the Chime camera and the  required EA navigator.
I just wanted to ensure that the Chime camera is available like any other camera would be in these conditions.  Just looking at the driver now, and I can see that it is.  Unless any of the hive mind here know of any caveats...

Get a great remote dealer from this forum, and a copy of Composer HE.  Your new remote dealer will be more responsive/more skilled/cheaper/quicker/funnier/cooler, and Composer HE will give you some level of control and programming ability.
My strong recommendation - don't rip it out in frustration.  This system can do amazing things.  I would say that 90% of complaints like yours are fixed by :
    1. Minor programming tweaks
    2.  Some optimisation of the Zigbee mesh (Channel choice, location of devices etc)
    3. Some optimisation of router, wi-fi, general network.

Maybe someone can suggest some additional programming.  Along the lines of WHEN ---- laserdisc player needs to take a breather so that I can turn the disc over to watch Side 2 then PLAY---- Spotify (Elevator Music)

Get rid of all that programming on the blue button.

    when blue button is pressed
Select Disney+ in room (highlight the room on the actions pane, select a video device)
That's all that is needed.  Tv will turn on too if it was off.

Ha - just solved it.  Restart of the Rpi. That autostarts Camerabridge.  (I'd already edited /etc/rc.local but it needs a reboot to get things going)

Coookie, as you can see, there are some incredible members on this forum, especially honest and knowledgeable dealers that will make you do things with your system you never suspected and at very affordable costs.
By the way, (and I don't want to start another endless discussion about the dealer/install model), there is no doubt that having local dealers asking $600 to set an account for someone not familiar with Control4 is what leads to bad rep, systems pulled... Dealers have to make a living and best ones are priceless! But is it really good for anyone when a new Control4 user (typically house buyer) has that first experience with the system? How many of them decide to ditch their system?
Shouldn't Control4 reach out directly to all users to share some best practices when selling a house for example including connecting buyer to an installer with a set one-time transfer fee that would include basic training?
End users typically have a learning curve on the system and c4forums is an incredible resource. Maybe we can go one step further and create a sticky for new Control4 user who have inherited a new system. A step by step approach to taking ownership of their system and maybe some programmers on the site offering an "orientation package". I am sure it would lead to some long term productive and economically viable relationships...
By the way, as my signature indicates, I am not a dealer but end user.

95% + of all complaints like this that I've ever heard are fixed by one or more of these 3 things :
    1.  Some improvements to the strength/reliability of the zigbee network.  Control4 relies on zigbee communication between devices - for example between a remote control and your processor that issues instructions to devices on the system.
    2.  Some changes to your wi-fi/router setup to improve strength and reliability.  This is the other half of the system backbone that needs to be well designed to ensure that the system functions 24/7.
    3. Some (usually) minor changes to programming to make sure that the system is designed to do what you want it to, when you want it to.  There are several very high quality remote programmers/dealers on this forum who can help you get the best out of your system.  They are almost certainly better than your local guy.
Can you give an example of something that 'rarely works' ?  It might help to begin to diagnose what's going on.

Looks interesting for sure.  How does this compare, say, to the Berto IOT solution for Shelly ?  Looks like it doesn't require an RPi as a gateway, so that's one advantage.  Any significant differences in performance on 'sleepy' devices like sensors ?

I have a Shelly flood sensor sitting here.  Might give this a spin later.
EDIT : Just set it up.  Took all of 10 minutes, notifications worked perfectly.  Very impressive.  Set up some test programming to turn on a light as well.  Light came on and notifications came to my phone within 2 seconds of putting the flood sensor into a saucer of water as a test.
    Count me in.  Great work.

    G'day OceanDad.
I haven't had a chance to use the Berto drivers myself (although, I have heard of them). The best thing to do is to probably give the driver a try, and let us know how you go (we had really good feedback during the beta period), and if you do have any recommendations, we'd be certainly willing to listen. All of our drivers offer a 90 day trial, and if you're already using Shelly cloud, can be completely set up without additional configuration within 5 minutes (just jump into the Shelly Cloud Driver Agent, add the API key, Refresh Information, wait 30s, click Auto-Add and the drivers will be ready shortly after).

Without comparing directly, some of the main advantages over competing drivers (and possibly the Berto drivers) are:
Shelly Cloud Integration - Greatly facilitates self-healing during network changes (particularly for Sleepy devices). I believe berto uses MQTT, which is more efficient, however, cloud connection must be disabled. Cloud access to all modules can also facilitate remote troubleshooting. Auto-Adding of drivers on the cloud, including Thermostat/humidity. We include a Light driver to control relays, which can be added to the project in 2 clicks   2 -click easy setup of Announcements binding to events (for features like using the Shelly Button as a doorbell to play announcements). Alan's magic worked this out.  1 click Notifications for event support . Again, Alan worked this out, and it's already in a few of our drivers) Very large list of Events (in fact, I believe all of them). Not sure how we compare to other drivers, but Beta testers gave me the impression other drivers had less events Button_link bindings for events, which is perfect for treating Shelly Buttons like normal keypads for instance.   Huge list of properties and variables. Battery life remaining is an example some drivers apparently don't support .
In regards to sleepy devices specifically, our driver react to all possible events sent by the drivers, but will also pull as much info as possible directly from the module when it wakes up too, so will respond to feedback efficiently

Also, if you have any specific questions, feel free to message me directly
    Andy

I moved my support to Coolabode in August 2020 after finally tiring of the poor service from my original installer. Andrzej has helped me a couple of times since then with some remote control programming and a few issues with C4 and Sonos integration. And I recently worked with Kyle on another Sonos-related issue which ended up being hardware-related (old Sonos Connect output failed).
In every instance, with both Andrzej and Kyle, I received a very quick response to my initial request and great communication and service throughout the entire process. And their pricing is very fair.

I highly recommend engaging the Coolabode team!

I automated something very basic but a little different today...
We have had Hadedas (a fairly large annoying bird in the Ibis family) start visiting our garden regularly (15 or 20 times a day) to look at our fish (probably with nefarious thoughts in mind... ) They are an annoying noisy bird (although I can live with the noise but not with the mess they make as they eat a lot and what goes in must come out) and considered a pest (by many people) in South Africa.
I have been looking everywhere for a solution (tried plastic snakes around the fishpond and not prepared to try any of the options that would harm the birds).

On Friday my gardener said that what we need to do is attract a bird of prey into the garden.  This got me thinking and I have created an announcement which plays falcon bird sounds for 10 seconds on all our outdoor speakers (3 zones)  I have linked this to a double tap on our garden lights button.  The first time I tried it, the Hadedas took flight within seconds.

I have also added a repeating timer which will play these sounds every 15 minutes during daylight hours unless an override experience button has been selected.  It will not play in any of the outside zones which are currently active on the assumption that music playing means people around and no birds...
I must say that from within the house when the announcement plays it sounds like a very pleasant bird sound and not recorded at all!
I am very keen to see whether the Hadedas disappear over the next few days or whether they get used to my fake Falcon...

FPS reduction isn't as much of an issue as an enforced 720P resolution limit.  Let's all be honest - C4's handling of cameras in general is significantly behind the curve at this point.  I'm guessing that most customers who have been shown how to use a second app (NVMS etc) are using it instead of native C4 to view cameras.
As for using footage to really help police - there are too many instances where 2.8mm cameras are used vs 4mm and 6mm.  When it comes to the point where you have to actually identify the face of someone (rather than just observe the presence of someone), that's a problem.  I always advise people to understand the tradeoffs of field of view over image quality at given distances.
