  1. I sincerely doubt it was, unless it was PROGRAMMED to do so. And sure, you could if you want - you could even program it to turn off. When video selection changes IF current selected device is NOT Oppo If Oppo is on send pause/shut it off, make it burp.....
  2. Err.. yes EVERYONE has that same issue with EVERY source. That's how Control4 operates. Some systems work the other way around, but the though behind C4's method is that you can - for example - pause a movie, check the news and go back to the movie without interruption. Vs -say- Logitech, do that and the Oppo would have to power back up, load the disc again and so forth. Better or worse is an opinion, but what you describe is how C4 has functioned since it began....
  3. What, you mean it cannot read my mind and switch to the channel I want - the one I really want, not the one I'm trying to convince myself I want? pffft hunk of junk
  4. This is, in the end, a custom sysstem every single time - while there are 'common' devices, the 'recommended' devices will change in time and as the end-user requirements change. Point in case: This on could be answered in at least 10 different ways depending on the actual user scenarios and requirements...
  5. Baldwin has a plenty of options - you sure there's no match - also C4 sells matching escutheons and handles etc...
  6. Then get a company in that can do DMX, and have your dealer work with them to integrate. Depending on what you want, all you really need is the device and/or decoders - plus the integration devices you need for it. Easiest to step in is probably the one available from Houselogix. Don't sell yourself short just because your dealer hasn't done it. It's one thing for him to get into complete setup of lighting strips and procurind DMX devoders etc - another to simply use made for DMX lights with built-in decoders and tie it in....
  7. Options are limited here. Assuming you want to be able to answer while away from home, AND answer from C4 touchscreens - Doorbird and Mobotix are probably your better bets.
  8. Anything in general works - we've been playing with SnapAV's OVRC line of devices, including their UPS and I'm pleasantly surprised
  9. Nothing wrong really with the HIK - if control of the NVR itself is required, there's a (pricey) payed driver. But I would echo using BlueIris if you're specific on what cameras you want.....
  10. Just make sure it's tuned well, ie it's frequence is 59.6-60.1 or you may have issues with lighting devices.
  11. Rachio or IrrigationCaddy are really your only options for integration.
  12. You can still hardwire (it's still the best option in many ways) by having extra buttons (can be wired!) and soldering/wiring the controller to those instead
  13. First of all, you will not get text entering on apps etc - though depending on the device, number buttons can be used (remember those old cell phones?). I'd say 1 or 5 is probably going to be your best bet. There's an Android driver if you can/are willing to root your shield, there's IR drivers floating around as well. For streaming stored movies, with Roku you could use PLEX server and driver, for Shield you could use KODI and the KODI driver (also allows limited compared to the full android driver, but still good normal android control)
  14. Control4 has not, is not and to the best of my knowledge will not block VPN as an option - heck, it'd be a huge pain in the rear to even try to actively do so.
  15. Not to mention lacking A/V (well at least V and limited A), Blinds, Locks, Doors/gates, lighting is limited to their own not multiple options, no RGB, no outlets.......limited to 120v means they'll have to expand to 240 before becoming a global player. Oh and...it's not out yet! Mind you - it looks like a sleek product, but unless they create bigger interoperability to other systems (HomeKit is one they state they can't do and their initial product will never be able to do). At this time though, the whole product is basically vaporware....albeit good looking vaporware!
  16. Hey, everyone's different, but I've heard 'i don't listen to music much anyway' more times than I can count. And for every one of those that skimped on music sources (controller feeds) because of that, their system got upgraded because ... they started listening to music more
  17. If setup right, you'll likely find you'll use it far more often than that.
  18. No. Matrix amplifiers do NOT have any built-in streaming ability - instead you need to feed controller outputs into the matrix to get audio - so that means if you need/want 4 streams of individual (ie different music) you need 4 controller audio connections. As for the speaker points - I've not heard that they are to be pulled, but then again - they don't generally pre announce that. But as you mentioned, their firmware is no longer updated, nor do they have the ability to use the newer advanced audio process for better sound and less lag. I'd wait to see what happens at this point - you can always decide to not yet update the system software, and replace when that time comes - or wait if there will not be an updated speaker point by then.
  19. 120v at 5 amps, so 600W. What worries me there is no specs for specific lighting loads, as you should stay well below 600w for LED due to inrush current. Not to mention they say you can do a fan? Curious how they worked that out. Also would have been nice to say see a bigger test case where there are a lot more lights/devices. See how well it works for voice control then. Could be interesting though.
  20. Why? Pakedge is still an individual product/company. It's not limited in it's availability to Control4 Dealers only. That would still depend on the final margin. The biggest advantage of Pakedge right now would be that it offers a very reliable product for dealers with full in house support, particularly for Control4 use, to dealers that are NOT so knowledgeable about network setup. If it's the 'right' fit for everyone is a different matter.
  21. When it comes to JAP - Luxul is probably better - that said, it's probably the only thing I consider using Luxul for...
  22. vlan control, blocking internet access to devices, possibly dynamically rerouting a media player (say a Roku) between a parental control OpenVPN setup or not. Block server access for mediaplayers pointing locally as wqell (ie block of a server that has all movies with R/Mature ratings from 6am to 10pm) Control over AP on/off times, or even radio output level control for those to whom that is a concern. Network monitoring, allowing triggers for programming (ie kid's phone has now used x amount of data - start a siren!, or x % of data is iTunes/ATV - block further access, or send a push notification to everyone to stop. Can see even more function on a business/commercial level for those heavy into doing C4 there. All depends on what the API allows really. Could also be a base for more. I'm sure they'll hate me for saying it - but in the end, I would say it'll depend on cost vs benefit - but I can see potential.
  23. Hmm. Well, strictly speaking, this could feasibly be done fairly accurately done automatically - simply basing it on chapter length - I've played with a few media players and desktop software that could use this ability to automatically skip to the main movie. Heck, AnyDVD has the ability to automatically remove these based on the same info. Not saying the Oppo would have that ability, but it wouldn't require a person manually mapping everything..... That said, great work as always Alan - now I just have to wait 'till Christmas day and see if Santa got my last minute letter...
