Another option is Spotify.  I prefer Spotify despite the lack of full integration with C4 because I prefer the Spotify app UI for selecting and playing music.  I am used to using this UI on my phone, PC or tablet when away from home so then using the same UI at home, and using the play to device feature to send the music to C4 works for me.  The only issue then becomes if you want add other zones to the music then you also have to open up the C4 app.  But this could be easier for your wife once she gets used to it and if she likes the Spotify app.
But not sure about the audio quality as Spotify Hifi was "announced" over 2.5 years ago but is still vapourware.

Absolutely not an issue at all. We rarely use the garage speaker anyways, only when my wife decides it is "garage clean out" day (though ironically, it is usually my stuff, not hers, that gets cleaned out). 

But is seems like adding it to a C4 session is not a big deal in your use case since you don't need it to be synced to other rooms since it is in the garage.

With a PC you should be able to do this with either EventGhost, or MCE Controller, which was written by former C4 exec Charles Kindel.

Look around for people with spare amps especially if you aren't using the video aspect of the amps, which it sounds like you aren't.  I have some unused AVRs because the freaking things became obsolete so quickly due to changing video standards from S-Video, to Component, to various iterations of HDMI.

There's also Span with a smart circuit breaker panel as well.

I know I am a bit late on this, but why are you giving up on the older C4 matrix amps?  I have a bunch of the C4-16s.  They are still rock solid.  The next gen of C4 amps had a lot of problems but the older C4-16 and C4-8 were very solid and had the advantage of being matrix amps.  But one downside to the C4-16 is that it didn't have digital audio inputs.

It looks like there's no option on the shared access grant that limits it to local or remote...  You can either grant full access or partial access, complete lets the person also add/remove zones, change settings, etc.
You can also specify when the rights will expire.

I like the protective housing idea.  I have a special needs daughter and can understand how this can happen, although she has not damaged TVs.  What about just a piece of plexiglass cut to the size of the TV that just covers the front - would that be sufficient protection?  Then you don't have to worry about venting.

The Control4 for OS 3 app has officially been released through the Amazon app store on Windows Subsystem for Android.  Note that the Microsoft and Amazon haven't rolled out support to all countries and regions yet, but as they do this will become available to you.
