I would say you are not the target market for the product. The target are dealers that do large volumes of work...

Your frustration is misplaced, the person you SHOULD be blaming is the person who bought the driver for you… for not telling you how it works and also for not taking care of you.

I’ve seen this as well except that it appeared to happen after a rack power cycle. A zone would be on, music playing for no particular reason even though navigators say everything is off
Turning the zone on then off again would resolve it until the next power cycle
That was last summer and there was a matrix firmware update last fall and I haven’t seen the issue crop up since so maybe ensure that the matrix is up to date

Clare Controls is a slightly different situation. It has a closed SDK as opposed to the open nature of Control4 and other platforms. This meant it was unable to be included in our agreement with Chamberlain. Chamberlain have given us authorisation to provide a solution for Clare Controls, but it requires consent from SnapOne. Chamberlain are committed to work with us on a long term basis to bring connected solutions to the smart home automation space. We have a deal in place to support the major platforms (Control4, Nice, Crestron & Crestron Home, RTI and URC) while we look for expansion opportunities with other platforms. We weren't involved in any discussion between Chamberlain and SnapOne so can't comment on the contract between them or the length of terms they had together for the Clare Controls integration.

    Your opinion.
Control4's adherence to the dealer installation model is certainly a topic for conjecture and discussion, but, sadly for you, it's not up for a vote.

I disagree that it takes constant tinkering. In the last month I have made 1 change to my house...

I must say that as a (relatively) educated end user with 2 homes (both massive systems), I fully understand this viewpoint.  My dealer has taken a couple of emergency calls at 9pm on a Friday evening.  The reality is that in these sorts of emergencies, even my dealer has been able to do very little BUT due to the relationship, he has been able to calm me down and assure me that we would get it all sorted out.  I suspect that the telephonic support I would get from someone with no clue about my system would just irritate me in that sort of situation…
I should also say that my dealer has always been extremely gracious in these situations and his wife has (as far I can tell 🙈) been very understanding when he has spent an hour on the phone to me…
That said, my dealer does not currently charge me for these sorts of calls but makes his money on my regular additions and changes to the systems.

    Not every client is respectful.
    Not every dealer is responsive.
Talking to my rep team a few months back, it was clear that it's a big issue for many, and for Control4, than most of us are aware of.

One thing I would have found to be beneficial is to allow the client to pay for the Assist service and allow the dealer to be the point person, not their call center. I usually don’t hit the Gold level for sales volume and I think an Assist plan that opens my tech support access to either the 7 day 8-8 or the 24/7 + 365 would be an easy sell. Most of my client base would refuse to contact another party to deal with their service issues.
I’ve made a reputation for direct and personal concierge level service and clients message me directly. The Snap stance is that Assist is strictly client facing so that becomes a deal stopper for me to promote it. I’m a very small operator that represents Snap and C4 very well on my own so I don’t see this program helping me at all, it would likely fracture many of my relationships. I think this would benefit larger firms where employees aren’t likely to want to deal with after hours calls so it’s not a bad idea but definitely not a one size fits all solution. For small operators that don’t necessarily want to run large operations but focus on higher quality and less volume this seems to run against that grain.

Part of the reason for this program is because there are so many C4 owners that have been abandoned by their dealer or have had conflict and parted ways, this gives the customer a way to deal with C4 to have issues resolved although I’m not sure how that’s going to go with how we’ve seen some systems are put together… they need a bomb not tech support
Another aspect is to let the integrator work on new jobs and not get bogged down with service requests which I think is a complete crock of crap, if you’re so bad at putting systems together and business in general that you can’t figure out how to put together a reliable system then service the minor issues that might crop up then C4 should have a mechanism is place to at least delist that dealer from the dealer locator
It’s embarrassing that Assist is becoming a thing but it speaks to the quality of dealers in general and not the C4 product which we find to be quite reliable. Other snap products like their amps and hdmi extenders are piss poor and we haven’t used them for a number of years

If you are using a Home Theater Controller (HTC) in the year of our Lord 2024, you deserve whatever you get.
May I suggest the easiest way to re-activate your Zigbee would be to buy a newer controller.

“Starting to do automation systems on the side” is also a terrifying sentence….
OP, have you ever drilled into a $20k fireplace to hang a TV? Do you know what a $200k smart home looks like?
My point is IMO starting a dealership without ever working with the product and without having heavy experience in related systems (Elan, Crestron, AMX, Savant, RTI) you really have no business doing so. Not only is it a disservice to the customers but it will further damage the dealer model.

No.  a dealer needs to set it up.  You can install everything physically, run wires, mount hardware, etc.  But the actual programming to get it to work needs to be done by a dealer.  look on here.  tons of remote dealers that will do it for a great price.

ANY system is all about components and setup. You should not have the issues you are currently having with a Control4 system if it is setup properly for you with the proper components and setup and it should be easy to use.
Here are some random thoughts and replies (I'm not a dealer btw but an highly competent end user in the technology sector)...
    - You can integrate Alexa with Control4 to control things...I personally took it out of my system because of how Alexa listens to everything and sells your data but that's a personal choice.
    - I have Siri integrated for use with my Apple TVs for voice control and it works great.
    - If you're having HDMI signal issues over CAT6 there is a problem somewhere with the cable or the baluns.
    - I love the Control4 lighting and control around 150 light circuits with lighting scenes and automations, etc and it is amazing.
    - With Control4 we control: Lighting, HVAC (six zones), Video Distribution (10 zones with 8 sources), Audio Distribution (23 zones), Alarm System, Video Camera System, Video Doorbells (3), Pool System, Door Locks, Smart Outlets, Landscape Lighting, Blinds, etc, etc, etc.
    - Our system is rock solid with absolutely no issues
It is all about setup, your dealer, and your ability to communicate what you want out of your system.
I'll also add, that with Control4, for usability, I recommend that non-techie people (such as my wife and kids) have access to the iOS or Android Control4 app, that you have keypads with scenes setup, and you have touch screens.
