GregCAMS reacted to South Africa C4 user in Snap/C4 Feedback on Customer User Experience?
I was asked to give feedback to C4 a couple of years ago (fairly soon after OS3 launched)  and had a 1 hour video call with someone from head office.  It was clear that they were talking to a number of users at that time.  Not sure if this research program continued and not sure if feedback was used. I was impressed (at the time) that they seemed to be listening more to the end user.

Thanks for that feedback.  Shame they aren't doing further reaching to the end users, especially those they can see have large systems or those that have done upgrades and kept with the ecosystem for a long period of time to get direct interaction, even with just surveys and not just exclusive panel acceptance or forum looking.  Oh well. Thanks for that information.

Some dealers are included in a panel to provide feedback, but it is limited and handled by the PMs.
Control4 employees watch here, reddit, facebook, and a few other places and send back useful feedback or reports of issues, but it sounds like you're looking for a design feedback option and that is only taken by those in the limited panel.

Personally, if I ever installed a system as a dealer this would by my minimum:
    Full network access
    Remote monitoring with OvrC
Promote native touch screens over the mobile app
Avoid third party solutions as much as possible (even though I do have some in my own system, but would prefer them being replaced with a good 1st party alternative)
When the network is solid, ISP is solid, and rf interference is low, then the system should be very reliable.

Don't know what to tell ya!  Bought one HikVision system with NVR and 3 cameras in 2016, Cameras lasted about 3 years before starting to give issues.  Bought the 1st NVR in 2016 and then that one crapped out completely in 2019.  Bought a replacement unit and it stopped working in August of last year.   Regardless of branding or not they don't always make good product from first person trials and usage here.

Definitely AVPro Edge.  Have had the new Axion 8x8 for a few months and works great with all sources, distribution and downmixing.  The last part comes in handy uncompressed when playing the Kaledescape across multiple zones from mono to full Atmos

good grief!   Have had similar experiences and did some testing since the DS2 is just a rebranded 2N door station.
Rang Doorbell 12 times approximately 1 hour apart from each other  6 Times was to test with C4 and 6 times to test with Josh Had my phone with me at all times with the most recent C4 iOS update and current Josh.ai app version.  Have Josh notifications and C4 notifications turned on.   Have Josh Micros set to give audible announcement that someone is at front door when bell rings The results were: Control4 app 2 out of 6 times the C4 app launched the notification and allowed me to answer Of the 2 times 1 time the screen stayed blank for over 30 seconds before finally showing image 4 out of 6 times the app did nothing, no notification no launching of the app Josh.ai app 6 out of 6 times I received the notification 6 out of 6 times it gave the audible command to thru the Micros of someone at the front door 4 out of 6 times it loaded the image after pushing the notification within 3 seconds.  The other two were between 6 and 10 seconds From that rudimentary test it provided me with enough detail to take back to the dealer.  We've submitted requests to Snap/C4 a few times and no one responds.   We know it's not the lag based upon hardware since I'm running both a EA-5 and CA-10 and have no throughput issues on other wired devices in the home. This is further verified when comparing it to Josh app.  I The only downside to the Josh app at present is it doesn't allow me to do an intercom interface for speaking to them or a macro to unlock/lock the door.
From this test it's evident the problem is with the C4 app itself and its inconsistency or ineffective programming and testing before releasing.

Yesterday I’m at work and my phone rings from a doorbell press (Chime). I answer it, just a black screen spinning, trying to connect. Nothing. Never connected.
Finally just decide to pull up cameras a see who is there. No one is there. No one in the steet either. Decide to pull up my NVR to look at footage and time stamps. Oh, the ups guy was there and he did push the button. By the time it rang my phone, he was already in his truck driving away. For context, my house is not close to the street and it’s a hike to the road. He didn’t run to the truck. I would have expected my phone to ring much sooner.

really looking forward to seeing this one.  In every room here I have to have different rooms in the setup to play music and watch TV (i.e. Kitchen and Kitchen Music) which is a pain.  Hope this allows this to merge such that only one is needed with this change.

We have a Nucleus+, because we are powering 12 zones for Roon and wanted C4 integration.  If you aren't doing multi-room streaming to many different zones, you don't need the Nucleus+. And, if you aren't doing C4 integration, you don't even really need a Nucleus.  In that case, you're much better off running Roon on an existing computer or on a dedicated (but vastly cheaper) box that runs Roon.  The Roon forum features a bunch of people who've put together their own inexpensive boxes to run Roon -- if you want to go that route, I would ask for some ideas there.  However, I would probably first just try it on your MacBook and see how it goes.

May want to take a look at Seura as well. They're based out of Green Bay. I know it's what's used all around Lambeau. They make full fledged outdoor TV for the warmest of warms and coldest of colds. I also know they also made (don't know if it's still an option) an actual sealed-tight cover for existing TV's that was also used around Lambeau
Source: I worked for the Packers for a couple years and would see them being serviced/installed when I would go on walks on my breaks around the bowl in the outdoor concourses. Talked to the guys from Seura a couple times.
Just checked and they do offer C4 drivers as well.

I have Rachio and it works great with C4.  As for landscape lighting, I have a volt transformer and use their LED bulbs and lighting with a Lutron RadioRA2 switch (https://www.voltlighting.com/). to turn it on at dusk and off at dawn. Simple and reliable.

I think its very reasonable to expect this to work 'out of the box', the control4 driver for Josh.ai is very functional today, and didn't require much setup at all.  They have a very solid grasp on audio/video matrix/routing through control4, so i would imagine its as simple as binding the core outputs to your matrix and making sure the systems are aware of these connections.
To the comment up above about removing t3s/t4s, i thought about this, but i use them pretty often to display cameras,  its pretty nice to tell josh to 'show me the driveway' and have it pop up on the navigators.
If anyone has josh specific questions, i'll do my best to answer,  i've spent a ton of time playing with it and using it for a few months now.
I'll be installing the nanos/core once available as well.
The biggest difference for me over alexa/google was as follows
    - not being locked into the ecosystem was a bonus
    - reserved commands in alexa/google were annoying
    - not being able to play music throuh anything expect the google/amazon speaker i'm talking to,  i realize there are some hacks you can do to get this to work better with chromecast audio, etc, but it always required a non intuitive command to initiate.  - one of my big gripes (and something my wife could never understand) was why we couldn't just say something like "Listen to Metallica in the living room" and get it to play over the speakers.   additionally, as we're spotify users, we wanted the ability to listen to a specific song "listen to enter sandman by metallica in the living room" .  This was the simple request,  Josh has taken this a stop further as i no longer have to even specifiy the living room if i'm in the living room, and i have a micro (or future nano) in the same room.
With Google/Alexa i found myself going out of my way to initiate and use voice control, it was a cool novelty when people came over and i got to show it off with a very specific set of pre-set commands.  and occasionally, if i went into the baement with my hands full and i needed the light on, i'd say "Turn the basement on, Turn the basement light on,  turn the light in the basement on" until the light came on,  sometimes it took a few tries.  With the Josh stuff it's been better, I find myself using it out of convenience more than just forcing it into my routine.  In situations where my phrase doesn't do what i want it to do, its as easy as logging into the josh web portal, finding what i said int he history log and making sure it knows what that means for next time..
I know i probably sound like a salesman, so i'm going to go through some of the negatives below.
    - Josh and control4 don't really have a great way to exchange information between the systems with the exception of device status.  Meaning they can tell each other when a light is on , etc,  but if i needed to pull the status of my alarm system from Josh, there isn't really an easy way to do this (some work arounds)
    - Devices that are natively supported by Josh need to be setup on both sides (control4, and again in Josh)  specifically Roku, Sonos, etc.
    - Josh is missing a ton of internet functionality that Google and Alexa have.  Look up information (Alexa, how old is gary busey?)  Josh cannot do any of this stuff, we used it once in awhile and it was handy,  Additionally we used the google home in the kitchen to set timers for various cooking tasks.  The language recoginition around this in Josh is not as well built out as it is in the other systems.

Correct.  If you have a Micro the microphone and the speaker are both built in and all that you need.  You would not need a Core at all.
If you decide to get a Core you get a few functions:
Faster processing of commands If paired high availability (more reliability) The ability if desired to tie into your audio matrix to have the VoiceLink which would broadcast on any matrix-connected speakers in the home If knew they were introducing the Nano's I would have only gone with them and 2 Core's in the rack.  The Micros work great it's just not as clean on the walls even with a Wall Smart that I installed.  They aren't as bad wall acne with other artwork obscuring them but the Nano's can be paint-matched optionally to the point you can't really see them as showcased in their keynote address.

    Concur with @malelan.
I actually sold all but 1 of my 5 T3's with and replaced with Josh Micro's in 3 locations and awaiting the Nano's and Core for this 1 spot and 4 other locations.  I never once used the intercom feature from T3 to T3 in the home but no kids or large family here so that need is not warranted in my case.  The T3s' were only used for music, lights and shades for the most part here and that is much easier to use on the Josh when hands are full or just walking into a room.  Fortunately was able to sell the T3's at a price that made the cost of the Micros and the 5 year unlimited license was only a fractional expense.  Having used Google and Amazon Alexa in testing the Josh is a much better option and the pricing reflects it.  Just IMO a matter of preference and reliability.    The custom scenes and programming is very easy to use, the natural language is very nice and its intuitive way of working has been a good experience.

I bought the C4-LU862D video switch 3 years ago and I'm glad I did.  I love the functionality and it's performed very well.  However, I wouldn't buy it today.  The main reason is I need HDBaseT and the online data sheet says the LU862D still maxes out at 4:2:0 at 4K60 which means the box still uses the old Valens chip set for its HDBaseT implementation.  The Valens Stello chip family has been out for a while and it looks like the AVPro Edge HDBaseT matrix has incorporated as its rated at 4:4:4 at 4K60.  And it looks like the AVPro operates in mixed mode (4K and 1080p) environments - which is perfect because I have an old Pioneer Elite TV that I just can't seem to give up!  So I only get 1080P via the LU862D on all my 4K TVs.
