eggzlot got a reaction from IntrinsicGroup in Intrinsic Dev and myQ announce official partnership
not to go too off topic, but this can happen to any 3rd party driver.
See Tuya as a big example - they now want $10,000's of dollars to integrate into C4 after 2 years so I'll pay for the driver and have less than "5 years support". Another was a driver I used for a doorstation that went the way of the dodo bird when Houselogix shut down their business, C4 did a new SIP Proxy and that was that. Another driver for Steamist shower went belly up after a Steamist update and the author of the driver left the project. Outside of C4, IFTTT has had vendors come and go over time, and now IFTTT is a paid platform (if you want more than like 3 triggers).
It would be great as a customer to get a guarantee, but I think the responsibility is on the dealer to tell their customer if you decide to go this route, XYZ may happen
For me, after years of having issues with 3rd party drivers, I try to stick to as many native drivers as possible.
If MyQ puts this on their official integration list https://www.myq.com/works-with-myq then I'd be more confident.

eggzlot got a reaction from GregCAMS in New Room List Icons?
I finally got the updated app
simply put, its fugly and that is putting it nicely in something that can be posted on a public forum. and I have halfway decent photos for 80% of the rooms in my house (amateur photographer here). This update almost seems like a step back in the UI
Please either give us the option to turn it off, or make stock icons more consistent with listen, lighting, comfort etc from the hamburger bar or whatever based on the room type

this would get me closer to being allowed to cut the cord
the wife likes typing in a channel # and going there versus scrolling thru a menu....its why when I tried both Hulu Live TV and YTTV it got the thumbs down from the wife and back to cable we went...

eggzlot reacted to videostorm in Just released: IRUSB version 2 adds uWave PIR motion sensor
Just released: IRUSB version 2
Our popular IRUSB devices have been upgraded!
We have replaced the IR RX sensor (which no one was using) with a PIR (passive infrared) motion sensor. This new sensor is fully integrated in our C4 driver for configuration, motion state, and motion triggers.
How can you use this?
Hands free switch: Configure the sensor for very short range (~2ft) and set to toggle mode. Wave your hand near the sensor to "toggle" the switch -> which can be tied to anything in C4 Short range live object motion sensing: Configure the sensor for max range (~10ft). Acts like a standard thermal motion sensor. IRUSBv2 motion sensing can also be used WITHOUT an attached Android device. It can issue USB HID and / or IR TX commands (from flash memory) directly in response to motion events. This allows you to plug it into the USB port of generally any device and use the motion trigger to turn it ON / OFF (or other keyboard/hid commands). For IR control, just use a USB power supply for IRUSB and position IRUSB over the IR eye of the device to control. The motion event can fire saved IR codes to turn the device ON/OFF.
Of course, the new version still provides FAST IP control of Android devices. Nothing has changed here, the same drivers work. IP GUI control + IR TX extension + PIR motion sensing
IRUSBv2 is the same price as the prior version. All IRUSB orders will ship the new version starting now!

We have heard this every year since 2014 when homekit was released... if you can't make a viable product in nearly a decade at the largest company in the world I don't think you care enough to

eggzlot reacted to RyanE in TiVo Driver - Page Up/Page Down
Probably not without modifying the driver.
I don't know much about the TiVo driver, I didn't write it, although I may have modified it at some point in the past.
It's possible that it's not encrypted, if so, you could probably make the changes yourself, or hire someone to do it.
The one thing I'm sure of is that I don't have the time anytime soon.
Sorry.

I use the curtain sensor model for my stairwell
it mostly has a more narrow field of view this way walking by the staircase but not going down doesn’t trigger the sensor

that is rather shocking. HE is just Composer Pro "Lite" if you will. So if he said HE is a dumpster fire, Pro would be a dumpster fire with more gasoline poured on top
His logic, to me, makes zero sense. And I think he can lose his dealership if he gives you Pro and is caught
For you, its a win since you can do anything you want.
Word of caution, for Pro or HE, before you make any changes, make a backup of the project, then program away and save again. this way if you mess up, you have an older state to revert/reload.

eggzlot got a reaction from penn65000 in Can someone explain Zigbee 3 and Control4
yep that is the business model - if you want to tinker you have HA and other DIY platforms. Its a circular conversation on here all the time as you know. C4 has gotten a little bit better but its core business model is having a dealer design a system, install it, and do some periodic adds along with maintenance, etc. And given the drivers now can let you add your own devices, pick 1 platform, buy 1 driver and stick with it?
Maybe I am different, but in a given year, I am maybe adding 3-5 things to C4, and I'd say half of those are likely sold by the dealer anyways (another light, an OVRC surge protector, etc). Maybe a new TV, but how often are you buying new TVs?
I also look at C4 like I do my other "utilities" in the house. I want a speaker added to the guest bathroom, my wife fought me during renovation, we didnt put it in, now she regrets it, ok...We also want a new foyer chandelier. So we will find the chandelier first, then pick up a speaker and call my electrician and have him install both. I could call him out just for the speaker, but I usually bundle 2-3 items together. I see C4 the same way, get a few things you want done, call your dealer, poof they are done. Very rarely is something an "emergency" that needs to be installed and having to go thru the dealer is a major hang up. My speaker and chandelier are not emergencies....

eggzlot got a reaction from videostorm in Any Altice/Optimum Users Notice a Change in the UI/IR Codes
I'l shamelessly bump once more time but with it, I share a joke
I was chatting with Optimum support - after my inquiry they said let me get Level 2 support so I am put on hold, level 2 support joins the chat. after reading my question/issue at hand, they said let me investigate, they come back 2-3 minutes later and say ok, let's troubleshoot. first question, does your internet work..... *sigh* - maybe I am rude, but I am short on time, I said this is the wrong chapter of your support guide, the person said please work with us, do you have internet, I asked if they knew what an IR code was and they said they need to check my internet to see if that is why the IR codes arent working. and to think these people are PAID support....

eggzlot got a reaction from Gorilladaze in Brand New Installation - Any help appreciated
You realize c4 is a dealer sold/installed system and not diy?
for controllers is there is a core 1, 3 and 5 along with a ca-1 and ca-10
how big is the end scope? How much audio do you need? That decides what controller.
lights - control4 has it’s own hardware, or Lutron or cheap switches from Kasa or other smart bulbs could work. Again many options
blinds can be rollease, Somfy, qmotion or Lutron. Or anything with RF control and use a Bond.
alarms can be tons of stuff like elk, dsc, Honeywell. Cameras that’s a mixed bag but find onvif cameras
hardware can also be country specific too

eggzlot reacted to Control4Savant in rumors
There has been some transition here in the Savant world as well….
There ware licenses for each “OS version”. So you would buy a lic. for OS2 in the C4 comparison and then purchase an upgrade lic. when wanting the upgrade to OS3. This isn’t a requirement, the latest version of the previous OS still being updated and supported.
The lics. used to be dependent on the 4 different host levels.. the first being included, the second being <$1k and the last two being thousands. A lic. might seem like a lot but paired with a Mac mini for $900 and the costs were comparable to larger processors from competitors.
“4site” access in the Control4 sense is free and automatic w/ Savant. They had added an extra lic. for more advanced features accessed remotely but retraced it. They are moving now toward only integrated hosts (soundbar and amp) or self provided Mac hardware with OS lics. and lics. for deep integrations with big 3rd party system APIs

eggzlot got a reaction from msgreenf in Best Locks for C4
yeah as others said, you are confusing some stuff
Kwisket sells smart and dumb locks. by smart and dumb I mean the ability to use a code to open the door without a key
Kwisket also has something called "smart key" where they allow you to buy a bunch of kwikset locks and "re key" them so 1 physical key will work on all the locks. door lock, dead bolt, etc. this is manually using a key. some of the smart and dumb locks (with or without entry code keypads) have this "smart key" ability
this is all "smart key" is - nothing to do with "tech" or automation
