They're hardly dumpster fires at all, especially compared to some of the other similar systems out there. It's stable, functional and reliable. They can certainly feel a bit old fashioned compared to your average phone app in how it works (say Bond or even Hue apps).

    Pretty? No.
    Customer(light user) friendly? Not really.
Does it do what it is intended to do and do it reliably? Yup.

Setting issue or compatibility issue or possible a network issue, not so much programming.
It's certainly NOT an 'android' thing (in fact, the android app is arguably better when talking about cameras).

Well yes that was my point as well: once you start doing larger numbers, DMX is well worth it. If all you want is a single tV backlight, well there's other ways.

What programming. What additional equipement? You'd be buying stantdard lighting strips vs buying all in one packages. Complexity is relative.
Why? Because it's a standard, it's well maintained, well documented, and will outlast any 'brand' - Because it's universal and doesn;t rely on a brand to begin with. Because it's very capable, and it doens't rely on internet, cloud etc.

There's NOTHING wrong with using other options for small projects or very specific functions (for example, the Govee I use is used only for it's TV screen tracking backlight and all i do is turn it on and off) and I have a few Hue bulbs in specific sports where it was convenient to use them as wiring wasn't feasible. But I did my complete basement using low voltage lighting: there was never a doubt that I'd be using DMX for it.

It's not strips: DMX doesn't equal strips. In my case it's (true) low voltage potlights - 60 or so of them -  as well. Plus something like 30m of striplights as well, for closets, shelves, and toekicks. Potlights are simple whites, not RGB - again DMX doesn't equal RGB as such.

For reference, we're also doing a whole house right now as well with basically all low voltage lighting (dual white) except a few chandeliers and vanity lights.

As said, it's mismatching max/min OS. Honestly easier is to just back up, load back up in virtual 3.3.0 delete the HC800, back up again, load backup in virtual that Core is currently on, back up again and load on Core.
So far out 9 of 10 just reconnected all zigbee, the only exception being one that had just remotes for 3 adjacent rooms and nothing else for ZigBee 🤷‍♂️YMMV
That's the plan I've heard as well, but migration wizard has always been the slow way to begin with....

There is though. CPU is the same, but RAM amount is not, and if memory serves, much like EA, the Core1 doesn't have a separate audio card, and the Core5 has two offloading all audio handling from the CPU.
That said a system that ran fine on an HC800 should run fine on a Core3 all else equal.

This would be for having access to non Control4 Snap brands in Canada I would think, as per your own comment: not that I recommend it as it leaves you without proper access to SNAP support once the buddy isn't a buddy anymore....

Should be noted that Snap has owned Staub for the last year or so.

If C4 pulled your dealer satus, then it is going to be in (likely in a large) part because you weren't doing the numbers to maintain it.
Elan would do the same thing, though they may have a less saturated market (so a lower threshold).
But ANY of the more advanced options out there are dealer model based (to one degree or another) - and all of them will have certain requirements.
You basically say that C4 wasn't 'open' enough for you - but that translates to needing a lower threshold to becoming and maintaining a dealership status. Not saying there's anything wrong with that, but any of them will have those thresholds, and all o them will have (local/regional) market dependant thresholds. What I'm trying to say is that there is no singular answer to what system is easier to be/keep being a certified dealer for.
In any area it might be Elan, is could be Savant, Crestron or indeed Control4. But those 4 are basically the ones that are comparable in capability though of course each has it's advantages and disadvantages.
Maybe RTI or URC have all you're looking to do and maybe those fit the bill, but those two aren't near as complete as Control4 or the others are.

In other words, you're better off talking to the reps for these companies first and foremost to see what their requirements are.

Cyknight got a reaction from Don Cohen in NVR to replace Luma 510-NVR-4CH?
the new x20 series is an obvious choice, and yes they seem much more stable overfall (by the way you can use IETab in chrome, though I think it's paid these days). Yes there's a specific guide to get x10 cameras to work with x20 NVR and the other way around, it's hardly complex though, and it's not ben an issue where we've done them.
That said, Luma x10 series are still standard ONVIF cameras: any standard NVR can see them, though for integration into C4 you may have to put the cameras on a PoE switch vs using the back ports on an NVR

    That's one way.
You do see the OR button at the top of your screen shot right?

That said you could all just keep it in one place/a single macro...
{put anything you want to ALWAYS happen here such as your push notification} If date is between {set1} {do whatever you want} STOP If date is between {set 2} {again whatever you like} STOP IF {repeat as needed with that STOP at the end} {Now do whatever chime you want to ring on all 'normal days} The STOP option will prevent set 2 from firing if set 1 is fired, if set 1 was skipped, step 2 may be true and gets fired, then STOP will prevent it from going further...and so on and so forth untill any specified date ranges are 'checked' and if non of them are true the 'regular' chime fires.

? Elan is a dealer model as well. Their step in is likely less, but it sounds like you're jsut becoming a dealer to service your own system....they'd pull you in the year anyway.

I avoid zone 2/3/etc on surround receivers by default, and I've only ever seen it work properly on a few receivers, and only with fully matched drivers over serial or IP that were built specific for the model (know that a lot of drivers are essentially copies of older drivers with a few updated in/outs and some changed codes/commands/macros, and not purpose built based on the model).
As per c4toys above, if forced do use it, I just create a basic IR receiver driver with the IR commands I need for the purpose and treat it as a separate 'device'

ZigBee ISNT updated, it's in the process, and even once updated, that won't mean any and all devices will just become 'magically' compatible. If anything, the move is to the udated zigbee protocol, and likely (if any) only devices that might be able to connect using a more 'open' zigbee would be those that compy with those new protocols - existing nyce HA zigbee devices wouldn't.

Note that I have no specific/special knowledge or insight of where C4 is going with their ZigBee, but I wouldn't advise anyone to hold there breath thinking all zigbee devices will become directly integrated into C4. Nor am I claiming/stating they won't (eventually) get to that point. If AND when that happens is pure speculation at this point based on what I've seen.

Cyknight got a reaction from Double D in Help Me Understand Why I have Control4
Uhm. I sincerely doubt the whole "do it all with voice" would last long. THAT is limiting.
That said, as you mentioned alexa can be integrated with C4 to do pretty much anything - but as with ANY voice setup, the more you do, the more you need to remember what to say and how to say it. If you find tidal hard to use in C4, well either something is really amiss with your setup in some weird way, or, and yes I AM being an ass, complex voice control isn't for you either.
The fact that it's not workign right is merely a matter of setup and programming. Sounds like the C4 dealer you're working with is in over it's head.
Roku is about as solid as it gets integration wise, but not knowing the setup it's impossible to say what other components may be involved, and thus not working.
Lighting isn't limited to C4 and lutron: those are probably the most rock-solid solutions out there however. Any zwave lighting pretty much works as well. Not to mention numerous other options. Look at drivercentral.io for a pretty expansive overview of other options.

You should knwo that C4 is a dealer installed and maintained system. While there are options for you to tinker yourself, 'quickly adding new smart features' (yourself) isn't what C4 does.

smartKEY have nothing to do with ANY control (or "smart") system at all. Smartkey is just a way of keying physical keys more easily, be it for a new key or to key different locks to the same key without needing matched cylinders.
No more or less. Basically stop using 'smartkey' as a type of lock to integrate. Even smartCODE locks aren't really 'smart' in that those are the ones without a wireless communcation and just have on device set codes and time based autolock options.
Kwikset's line of 'app/control system controlled' locks is called HOMECONNECT. C4 has their 'own' line they sell, though the cards from those can be used in many other kwikset HOMECONNECT locks as well. As mentioned above, Zwave is an option as well. 'just' bluetooth varieties are not.

This doesn't work because there is no 'hard' source selected in your situation, but digital media instead. With the inclusion of all the streaming options in recent years, using 'current selected' really is more or less dead.

As others have mentioned, the room control driver(s) should be added for you. Dealer can do this -literally drop in the drivers (I would just ask to get this done for every room with audio or video in it)- and from there you can set everything from within composer HE

When timer expires, set kitchen current volume to current volume -1 (you find this under the room variables)
WHEN timer fade expires IF kitchen current volume is more than 0 set kitchen current volume to kitchen current volume -1 IF kitchen current volume is equal or less than 0 {just in case....} turn kitchen off stop timer
