Tokead got a reaction from Hugh Ironside in Zigbee down
For the last two week, I keep losing the Zigbee network, and I need to reboot my controller to get it back. I am making an assumption it's the Zigbee but that is based on the fact that I cant control lighting nor use my remotes. I can use the app to turn on TV and AVR. After a reboot, it all works. I am running the latest OS on an EA-5. Any ideas I can look at while waiting to hear from my dealer?

Same issue here with the intercom. Video is streaming fine when I access the stream via “cameras” but when I call the intercom or someone rings the doorbell I get the call on my phone and once I’m in intercom it either hangs on connecting or connects and I get the audio but no video just a message saying poor connection video will return.
    Any suggestions?

    thanks

Suggest the Liftmaster 893 universal wireless remote. Works with all color buttons, and can do three doors.
Solder to it's buttons to a dry contact.

Which could be Ruckus finding clearer channels, but starting to interfere with ZigBee - worth a try at least.

Or you could use the 'relay garage door' driver, freely available in Control4's online database.  It provides a nicer Experience Button interface as well.
It has an configurable 'open time' after which it will fire an event.
If you have multiple contacts (door fully open and door fully closed), it can also alert you if the door takes too long to open or close.

If you have a dealer who doesn’t know where to access HE you need to fire them… They clearly are not knowledgeable about basic things with the brand

It because CEC it so good it knows what you want to do at all times. It is wise to turn off all CEC on all devices as it can cause unattended issues as you have experienced. EARC is getting better allowing you to decided what CEC can control on some devices and most audio devices can now use ARC with CEC turned off.

sounds like an issue with the tv itself. if it was control4 and the room was being turned off the audio would have shut off as well. You can also check the control4 app and if the tv icon is lit up then it means control4 also believes that the tv is on.

I moved my support to Coolabode in August 2020 after finally tiring of the poor service from my original installer. Andrzej has helped me a couple of times since then with some remote control programming and a few issues with C4 and Sonos integration. And I recently worked with Kyle on another Sonos-related issue which ended up being hardware-related (old Sonos Connect output failed).
In every instance, with both Andrzej and Kyle, I received a very quick response to my initial request and great communication and service throughout the entire process. And their pricing is very fair.

I highly recommend engaging the Coolabode team!

11 years with C4 in my house. Never felt ripped off. Had some frustrations initially. Found a dealer on this forum. Happy since. The dealer is key to a positive experience.

Not to one-up @Don Cohen's beautiful work, but today I automated my speakers to play the refrain from "Who Can it Be Now" when someone pushes the doorbell and also programed my washing machine to play the opening riff from "The End of the Line" when the cycle is finished.  Go me.

Mark, I’m in Surrey. I’ve had my system for 10 years. I’ve never paid any yearly fees other than for 4Sight, and that’s by choice. An OS update is also by choice, and was at most an hours labour.
I don’t know what issues you’re having. I had issues initially until I got a dealer who knew what he was doing. I’ve added on and upgraded several times since.

Tokead reacted to Don Cohen in Alexa control of C4 Watch TV
I have Roku Ultras in my Theater and Family Room.  I have added Miniapps for all the common ones we use, and configured them for Voice control with Alexa.  I have to use both the Alexa app to 'Discover' devices, as well as enable and configure them in the Control4 Customer Portal.  I've configured it such that the 'default' is for my Family Room, so:
"Alexa turn on (Netflix, Amazon, HBO Max, Disney+)" will turn on the Family Room, and go directly to the App I have invoked.
"Alexa turn on Theater Room (Netflix, Amazon, HBO Max, Disney+)" will turn on the Theater, and go directly to the App I have invoked.
I'm not sure if this is exactly what is being discussed, but this works perfectly for me, and I use it all the time, much preferring this to opening the App on my phone, using one of the SR260's, T3, etc.

No reason to replace light switches. C4 switches work fine without a controller. Many of my switches are from 2007 and are still fine,

When I was starting out, fresh from certification I remember I opened up composer pro on the first project I was on and then was immediately a dear in the headlights. Now after a few years of field experience I've seen my way to being able to program these systems pretty easily. As a pay it forward kind thing I made some videos on my youtube channel covering a few different topics in programming. Some of the videos are direct responses to viewer questions which also highlight and showcase different sections of composer pro, be it conditional logic, variables, custom programming, etc. When I was starting out this type of thing would have helped me tremendously to see some of these principles demonstrated rather than just reading about them in practice, so all I ask is anyone that views these videos, if you find them helpful please consider subscribing and liking the videos and if there's a topic or question youd like to see a video about let me know in the comments

Tokead got a reaction from storm7 in control 4 maintenance costs
I recommend buying HE. No, you cant add devices, but you can do pretty much everything else. Just remember to make back-ups. I've had my system coming up 10 years, and I've added to it greatly over the years.
Annual cost is the cost of 4Sight, periodic updates to the lastest OS, occassional addition of devices and equipment, and fixing what I buggered up in HE (I'm not a techie). 3 of those of course are completely dependent on the user and can vary from $0 to $x. I figure I'm averaging $500/year nowadays.
If I buy a new switch, I've had the cost of install included (takes minutes) if  I do the programming myself to $10-$20 a switch. If it's fixing my messes, it averages around $100/hour, and it typically takes less than an hour with a good dealer: lots of them on this forum.

I think the main issue here is a lack of respect from OP to this profession. We are more than happy to help him with ways to procure hardware as per OP's request.  But to come in with zero experience in this industry and be dogmatically prescriptive about margins of 5% to 7% and hopelessly vague about what OP means by "well compensated" is just overzealous and overbearing. We are here to help OP get his system off the ground, not to be lectured ad nauseum about profit margins from a newbie who simply has no idea about this industry.
