Elvis got a reaction from c44me in New Halo and Halo Touch Remotes
Got my Halo and Core1 setup today. The Halo sat on the charging base about 16 hours before I had time to set it up with the new project. Obviously I haven't had it long enough to comment on battery life. Will know more soon on that as the charging base is not adjacent to our normal chairs for watching TV -- it will get left off the charger soon enough. I don't have uAPSD as an option on my WiFi either.
New remote coupled with an entirely new project, so I would assume that impacted the Halo. The project was still being tweaked after the Halo was added. A few hours later and it seems to be responsive and stable.
The screen is nicer than I expected. Not being a touch screen, I was skeptical but it was very easy to read. We never accessed Dish Hopper DVR media directly before because the SR-260 was too hard to read. Now we will use that feature. I do think this media list UI could be better. Since it is not touch screen, I think it could be a lot denser and there needs to be some sort of animation or feedback when scrolling down the list. The only way to see that you have changed episodes is to read the recording date.
Maybe they are trying to use the same display of the media as will be needed for a the Halo Touch. I'd rather see more with less dead space. I get it for the Touch.
Siri works as advertised. Had to turn Siri off and back on in the AppleTV to make it work. After that, no issues at all. I'll be happy to put that tiny Siri Remote in the drawer.
Very hopeful. I see a lot of potential.

My vote would be to put it on the charging cradle where it belongs when not using it and stop worrying too much about battery life.

While for basic daily use, I still prefer the SR series (too early to tell for Halo yet) - but batteries do get better, and WiFi is improving - so I do not believe those are any reason to not use Wifi as such.
That said, an SR remote lasts WEEKS if not months depending on use with the right settings (mainly sensitivity) and a good set of regular batteries - even if the halo lasts days of the dock, my personal gripe has always been the docking in the first place (don't use the dock for SR remotes either) as i simply don't like it to begin with.

The biggest downside to me with any 'screen' remotes with feedback etc is simply the cost. Sure it's nice to have, but other than high use areas/special areas (ie living room, theatre and/ore media room, maybe a master bedroom or home office) I most certainly hope their would be a simpler remote on zigbee/whatever that can just sit there for weeks or months (ie gust bedrooms, kids if they have a function for it, secondary suites, laundry rooms etc etc) and don't cost as much as  the small TV that may be in there.

Note that I like my Neeo and so far the Halo IN these high/high level use areas and not saying that they aren't good - but my laundry room is already pretty decked out just having some quality speakers and a small TV for ironing duties....

Sure, you could do that in Composer programming, using a variable to keep track of which 'mode' you were in.
You would then switch modes by pressing red or green, and then you check which mode you're in on the button press, and send the appropriate dish commands.

Control4, and smart home devices in general, don't usually play nice with any TRUE mesh/repeater setup. Not that it can't work at all, but once you start putting many devices on such a network it can start creating issues, there may be auto settings that you can or cannot change that may need to be done for reliability etc.
Oh I'll note that 'but my computer hasn't lost internet' does not mean a reliable network: once you have dozens of devices talking to each other on a network, you're looking at thousands of consecutive connections (while not accurate and usually low, you can get an estimate of the connections required going 2 to the power of {number of devices} - it will at least show how quickly it adds up) - and most consumer networking gear just isn't built (including software) to handle that. Though they're getting better now that 'IoT' is more or less in so many homes.
If at all possible, wired APs will always be the way to go. Beyond that, there is no true cut and dry 'mesh or repeater will not work' answer as such, so it might have to be a 'you'll have to try' answer.

Beyond that, it'll depend on people that have tried already and can maybe chime in.

There is a video like this for practically every lock out there. Unfortunately, the guy doesn't understand that you can use the internal Level with any lock. I've used mine with Kwikset and Schlage deadbolts. I've yet to replace a battery. Others I've had (Kwikset and Yale) eat batteries.
If a crook wanted to rob me, they'd have no trouble breaking the glass, reaching in and unlocking the door.

Best way to integrate the doorbell camera is to be a C4 doorbell camera. I have this setup in my own home and every time someone rings the doorbell it pops up the feed on all my TVs in the house. Keep in my mind that this needs to be programmed by your dealer. If your looking to view your cameras on your tv, you need to get NVR to be able to view the cameras on your Tv. I’m not sure if vivint offers an NVR but it might not even integrate with the C4 system. Luma is the best camera solution if you want to view your cameras from the C4 app and you can also view them on the tv.

Place the probe on the driveway approach to the trailer, anybody driving in will trigger the alert well before they start mucking about with the trailers.
They have amazing range, battery powered, and the oval model of the receiving units has contact outputs as well. You can easily have multiple receiving units, just set them up the same.

In addition, hide Apple AirTags in the trailers. In case they are stolen, it greatly improves the chance of recovery.

Elvis got a reaction from C4 User in Sony OLED
Just got a new Sony 65" Class BRAVIA XR A80J Series OLED 4K UHD Smart Google TV. It was an impulse buy when I was in the store and they have a flash sale. We needed the TV since we sold all the electronics with the house, but I worried all the way home since I normally research things to death before buying.
Very pleasantly surprised. Picture quality is really amazing. I can't comment on C4 integration because that was also sold. When the AppleTV switched to Dolby Vision, it was a "wow" moment.
Not having the SR-260 wand was frustrating... until we got this TV. While the remote is not perfect (no backlighting!), it seems to be the closest thing to a universal remote right out of the box. It is the only remote we use except for voice search on AppleTV. But the Dish hopper, AppleTV and everything else we connect to it seems to get auto-identified and the remote controls it.
It is a strange mix of Google and Apple. The Airplay 2 in the TV turned my older soundbar into an Airplay 2 speaker. But voice commands to the remote control the TV, which is in HomeKit, so the commands get passed along somehow -- even when it might think it isn't supported.
Very thin, so we'll see how durable it is.

I have a rack mounted Synology, and my wife likes to fall asleep to movies she knows so almost every night we stream a movie off the synology > an android TV that sits behind our bedroom TV.  zero issues - then again we are usually asleep within a few mins so it could be awful and we'd have no clue...now that I think of it...

Just kidding, we also stream movies when awake and its just fine.

My Synology based Plex can easily handle the large library of Movies and Music. That said we run 2 streams at most and almost never transcode. Definitely can't transcode 4k.
But being you have a Mac mini, just run Plex and keep all the media on the Synology. Best of both worlds.
I'm hoping with the new Mac Studio coming out there's going to be a large number of minis hitting the used market, so I can finally make that change.

Worth noting that watching from outside your home it will likely need to transcode.  Not sure if that's a use case for you here but I've found that to be pretty consistently the case when (before pandemic) we were on vacation or something.  We use Synology for NAS and love it - bullet proof and huge upgrade over the old Drobo - actually looking to expand it this year.  Haven't tried running Plex on it though because we have a mac mini running Plex to handle transcoding and multiple streams - our Synology model couldn't handle that - not sure it could handle the size of our library either.

Plex is a solid option on the Synology.  Just make sure you have capable clients that don't have to transcode your content and can play it directly (Rokus are good at this).
