As the other poster noted, it's Google AI.  Home Assistant sends the notification, but it's agnostic as to tech.  Anything that can feed it a picture and a prompt can use it, and the info is just a JSON response.  Would be straightforward to use it in a C4 app notification.

Sort of a fun thing I'm doing with Home Assistant, but I'd think it should be doable with C4 if someone writes an integration.  When Unifi detects an object (vehicle, person, animal), HA sends a camera snapshot to Google Generative AI with a prompt to interpret what's occurring in the photo.  A notification is then sent to the phone with the AI text and the snapshot. It can be very accurate if the image quality is good and the prompt is good:

Thanks.  It's fun, but not terribly practical yet as the tech is still developing.  For instance you can tell it to give you license plate numbers, but it tends to hallucinate and give fake ones, even if you tell it "Provide a license plate number but only if you are SURE."  But you can see where it's going to be very cool (and intrusive). The one practical use i've found is that i've got it watching the backyard of an AirBNB to tell me if it spots two or more dogs (only one is allowed).  It's pretty good at that.

How breaking a user facing, and mission critical, piece of software and leaving it that way for > 1 month is acceptable is beyond me.

I feel like it has been obvious for awhile now that custom home automation is not a growth business suited for the stock market. A company can obviously make money doing it like Crestron and others but it is just not going to generate the high growth needed as the dealer/integrator is where the money goes to (as it should they do most of the work). There is only so much hardware that a dealer can sell to an end user no matter how large or complicated the project is. A dealer could be working on a huge 100k project and may only buy a few items from C4 (controller and remotes) if they went with 3rd party for lights and music. That isnt going to be enough margin for C4 so something like this was inevitable.
The only way to really grow the userbase like they want is to get a CORE Lite and remote into more family rooms but they arent going to do what is necessary for that to happen.

I am not sure that you really need special hardware.  I have PiHole running in Docker container on my unRAID server, along with my Unifi Controller, Plex Server, Home Assistant, Linux and Windows VMs, etc.

I wouldn't expect a Mac version of composer tbh.

Cameras aren't the greatest, let alone stock availability.  Good luck with any warranty support either.  They're not weather-rated at all in my eyes.

    Unifi protect is just awesome.
We’ve installed and deployed well over 300 systems.  Never looked back.  The app is amazing, the cameras have local communications, no yearly fee for recording, local recording, etc…
it may not have the ‘support’ and we counter that by training our techs and staff.  there might be better unique or industrial requiments unifi doesn’t support and we’d use another brand. But…  in 4 years not a single grumpy customer since switching so yea
best part is customers are sending us video clips when they have something happen at their house
with our Luma jobs we basically have to remote in and help them when they need to extract the video for police etc

user experience is paramount and unifi listened to what the luxury resident space needed

For something comparable to what driver Wizard creates, absolutely (but with the added bonus of basic IP Control too)..
I'd love to see the XML for something like an Alarm panel given all the bitshifting and such needed though.. Even in Lua, the ELK M1 Panel Driver codebase is 12000 lines of code (excluding Lighting / Lock /History Code).  I would assume you'd need to approach something like that differently if you want 100% integration

The efficiency of setup and the development backend at this time.. If you take a look at our updated Sensibo driver for instance: https://chowmain.software/drivers/control4-sensibo , as per screenshots, some of the new stuff in Control4 is actually still underutilised by everyone, and we're (all) still catching up. There's a thousand projects every developer out there wants to develop if they had time.
There is so much cool stuff we can do (many "disadvantages" which are cited for Control4 aren't really disadvantages, and could be fulfilled with a driver, such as Chowmain Light groups). If you look at drivers like our Scheduler driver, its actually a totally custom code too (and end users would never even realise)

That doesn't mean Control4 is the best for every project (Crestron, Qsys, ELAN, RTI all have their applications). There were things I found good about all of the professional Home Automation systems I personally tested (especially for AV. they all perform exceptionally well)
They're all evolving, and all have their own niche. But, there is an incredibly amount of flexibility in these systems which people aren't aware about, because developers are still catching up (few lighting drivers have even fully implemented the full OS 3.3 lighting capabilities yet).

    SnapOne.
There's money, smart people, designed to be integrated products, manufacturing contacts, distribution, dealer base, exposure, marketing, training, support, peer brands support, and brand pressure to be part of the ecosystem.
Again, not every product is great, but there's a lot to work with there.

My #1 gripe with C4 as a company is the reliance on 3rd party developers for core functionality. This is not a criticism of 3rd party developers - they're great! The vast majority of lighting control systems in 2023 have some form of groups. Why does C4 rely on a 3rd party for groups? Imagine if Apple or Microsoft didn't incorporate the good ideas of 3rd party developers into their operating systems? Relying on 3rd parties for core functionality is a) risky, b) gives control away, c) shields the company from knowledge of how customers use the system, d) can be frustrating for users - I've paid thousands of dollars for this system and now I need to spend hundreds more for what should be included in the core.

How well does the Unifi Doorbell integrate? The entire Control4 doorbell game is a travesty for a luxury home brand.

Also, not everyone was affected. I tested on a optima 4k projector without issues as an example
It's unlikely that any installer here can claim they've never had an issue with 4k over HDMI before, it's actually fairly common (and it's sometimes not the product, but the product you're connecting to, such as receivers).
When I was an installer, we regularly had to set AppleTVs to 1080p as an example in some combinations.
Os3.3.3 fixes it though. And I'd assume most products implement workarounds too.

Either way, disregarding all that, the core series is much faster, and I recommend them, particularly since os 3.3.3

yes, there are new universal drivers for device types - a lock driver - a contact - a light - etc. so you use those with any Zwave device (with a core controller)

Point taken... I took offence to the passage that started with "You're simply wrong about wifi. My credentials are..."
I don't even have a "mixed environment" there are three legacy n/g devices connected to the AP.

I agree that video distribution is not needed nearly as much, especially if you don't use cable anymore.
