Spotify strikes again.  God I hate Spotify in every way.  But I think only integrators and audiophiles hate it.  My wife and kids are Spotify all day people.  I think the audio is horrid, the entire Spotify Connect thing is absurd (Sonos/Heos) and… I just hate it.  Oh, and the app is nice.  So that’s my issue.  Imagine if it was a native full integration.  Even with the horrid audio (who cares in 80% of distributed audio scenarios) it would be so killer.

I feel like there was a way I was able to use it on the manner you’re attempting.  I still say grab a used mirage (even an MMS-5a (I might have one very cheap for you since we’re friends).  This way you can use it for Spotify only and have that more robust integration versus having to open the Spotify app every time.  Sell the node for more than you’ll pay me for the mirage. And get 5 steams.

I think we may have discussed this but o do believe you can expose the Bluesound Spotify driver everywhere, but since you only have the one node, you just cannot steam 2 simultaneous instances. This is true for any streamer. The native (Ryff) and Autonomics (Mirage MMS) steamers have multiple streams (ie Core5, Core3, Core1, MMS-5e, MMS-3e, MMS-1e) …where the numeric portion of the product name is the simultaneous streams. Bluesound sounds fantastic, but look at Mirage MMS-3e and get 3 simultaneous streams. (Or 5 with the 5e) if you want a more robust Spotify integration. I don’t have one in hand right now (2 on demo), but when I get one back I’ll send you one to try.

I loved the Bluesound Node. There were a few things that I didn’t like regarding playlists for keypads or something. I can’t remember. But at one point I was all Bluesound. At my office I have a cutting edge current C4 setup with native & Mirage (only for Spotify). At home I settled for HEOS since I have 3 Denon AVR zones and it made 100% sense fir grouping. HEOS integration is not that common I noticed, but it’s very very good. Far better than Sonos (integration-wise). And the HEOS (Denon Home 550) sound bars sound beautiful.

    In order of my preference:

All in all I find native to be best (albeit I don’t love having to open the Spotify app to use Spotify)

Mirage a very close second (more robust Spotify and the sound is fantastic).

HEOS (allows AVR zones to group very nicely, lots of devices, sounds amazing).

Bluesound (great sound, smooth integration, lots of equipment options)

Sonos (it’s hard to overlook its popularity and product offerings)

Here is a screenshot. I do know my dealer had to install an extra driver for the actual programming, which I think is represented by the red and white circles.
@chopedogg88 - Can you advise what you added for the Shelly sensors?

I had horrible luck with the Shelly H&Ts.   From needing a very convoluted reset b/c of a registration error, to having them drop off the network, to horrible battery life - just not a great experience.
Sinope has a little battery powered device for detecting water leaks, but it also detects humidity and temperature.  Battery life is 2+ years for me so far AND it has a native driver for Control 4.  No fiddling with the Shelly drivers or a third party driver.

I'm a dealer for these things and can order some if you need them.

To be fair, the Neeo hardware does have known issues (regarding its WiFI chipset).  This was a problem prior to Control4 purchasing and releasing their own version of the Neeo.
It's always been fairly reliable for me (I run Unifi switching and WAP) -- although it does have it's moments occasionally.

I use Shelly. It is on sale now. Comes in white or black. Does temp and humidity and integrates with C4 using a Chowmain driver. I have my bathroom fans set to come up when the humidity is too high as measured by the Shelly H&Ts.

Correct. One node per stream. Or something like the NAD ci-580v2 which is 4 sources (like 4 nodes) in a 1u chassis (which is what I use for Bluesound).
Be aware that there is no Pandora on bluesound and Spotify is still just connect (not native like on Autonomics MMS). You would need to use the c4 audio stream for Pandora.

Dealers typically quote you things that:
    a) They are comfortable with and knowledgable about
    b) That they can get support on from the vendors
    c) That they make a decent margin on
SnapOne (who owns C4) owns Araknis, so that is probably why they are quoting the Araknis networking gear.  Personally, I would not pay $750 for an Araknis AP.  In fact, I wouldn't ever install Araknis gear in my own home -- but that doesn't mean it doesn't work -- it's just not my preference.  Ubiquiti works perfectly fine when configured appropriately -- regardless of what folks may tell you.  Your dealer may not be comfortable with Ubiquiti though -- and he certainly isn't going to make as much money selling you Ubiquiti than he would if he sells you Araknis.  He also has someone to call if he needs help with Araknis.  He can probably "guarantee" that it will work as expected, where he may not be able to if you asked him to use Ubiquiti.
Origin makes fantastic speakers -- you really can't go wrong with them if you are willing to pay for them.

This.  You need to figure out why you're transcoding in the first place.  Once that is fixed, you won't have issues.

Mikrotik is *perfectly* suitable for home if you know how to use it.  If not, like you said, you shouldn't use it.
I can drop a configuration on a Mikrotik router that supports multiple VLANs, etc 10x quicker than I can provision and configure Unifi routers and switches.  To each their own.

Yeah - I have a number of them in 'low-traffic' areas -- a 5 series on the patio, a small one in the bathroom, a 6 series in my office, etc.  I have been happy with all of them to be honest.  I wouldn't use the super cheap 3 series, etc, but the 5+ series have all been very solid -- and I don't have to install an extra Roku!

I suggest you do Lutron. They have a variety of lines and budgets including panelized. You can even mix them seamlessly if you have a central system like Control4. It keeps you fully compatible but agnostic to whatever central home system you choose to ever have. You can use those proprietary C4 keypads for scene and other system controls.

I'm considering getting back to remote assistance, albeit on a much more limited basis.  PM me or comment on the thread if you need anything, and I'll take on what my schedule allows.

    I appreciate it!
