I trust you’ve never been a producer of large scale software. LOL.

It’s frustrating, but I see how it happens.

Mitch got me the locked away and secret CloudDriver (that doesn’t unlock any functionality so shouldn’t be locked away) and I’m in business. Thank you, Mitch!

Your frustration is misplaced, the person you SHOULD be blaming is the person who bought the driver for you… for not telling you how it works and also for not taking care of you.

Well, went over there and my 6 year old was watching a movie - that’s a good sign! The factory remote isn’t anywhere he could find it. I asked him when he came in if it was just black or a painting and he said it was a painting. Tuesday is one morning where I’m not up and about as early as normal so I’ll check again tomorrow. Hoping it had gone to sleep due to lack of motion, and he woke it up as he was milling around. Time will tell but I consider this a success so far!

ILoveC4 got a reaction from Neo1738 in Why Control 4?
I’ve tried but haven’t found anything that is as connected and seamless as Control4. What we use the most is remotes and touch panels to control audio and video (22 zones or audio and 6 zones of video), lighting via scenes and voice control (this is easy to replicate with other systems), intercom (aspects of this are easy to replicate but not with the buttons on the intercom that are amazing) and general automations. It is integrated in to nearly every aspect of my home.

The a/v and physical interface is the hardest thing to replace.

They certainly don’t seem to be working on the Tesla one, either. At this point I’ll probably steer clear of their stuff, considering the snails pace at which updates occur. I’d hate to buy it, then have an update knock it off line for a year or two why they “work on it”.

If you’ve got video and audio I think you’ll use the UI more than you expect. I’d do what your dealer recommends - they’re the ones supporting it and you don’t want them coming back and reminding you that you went against their advice. Find a dealer you trust and do what they say - trust them over any random person on the internet.

ILoveC4 reacted to neil12011 in How can i learn Control 4??
    I 100% disagree.
I worked for free back in 2008 just to learn.  I worked nights in law enforcement, and worked during the day with a couple of C4 dealers at the time.  This turned into a full time job, which turned into another full time job, which turned into running a company, which led to software emphasis, which led to Engineering, which led to me making nearly triple what I did starting off in this business.  This also allowed me to give back to the C4 community that I came from.

Just because you trade your time for experience, doesn't make you a chump.  There are always multiple pathways to a destination, and not everyone is so one-dimensional.  Granted, I didn't ultimately end up in AV or Custom Integration, but looking back, I'd do it all over again, best decision I ever made.

TLDR:  You make your own path.

I was the exact same way. Sometimes the cameras, sometimes the shades, etc… because the app took so long to load. This is a MASSIVE improvement and I’m very thankful. Great work team.

You’re thinking of Control4 like a universal remote. You don’t need all those steps.
Selecting the Zappiti as the source in the theater room should turn everything on. Execute your lighting as part of a scene. If you want to perform the down, enter, over, enter, etc… stuff do that after an appropriate delay.

There’s never a need to tell C4 to turn an A/V device on or to select a certain source. If you select it in a room and your bindings are setup right it knows what to do.

I did and my wife loves it! It simply works - not cheap but neither was the car. When you drive up the car beeps and the garage door opens. It also can (with the push of a button that pops up when you gett withn 100 feet) any of the other garage doors as well. (or close them)

    Thank you for the advice.

ILoveC4 got a reaction from South Africa C4 user in C4 lighting or Lutron RA3 - request for views?
I’ve got no experience with Lutron, but have put C4 lighting in 4 homes at this point and unless something changes, I’ll do it in my 5th home (which is planned but is inevitable).
It is rock solid and out of what is probably close to 1,000 dimmers/switches/keypads (spanning every generation of product) I’ve had 1 fail, and it was my fault. I love the engravable keypads, the backlit lettering, the customizable LEDs, etc…
