Matt Lowe got a reaction from Uh-Wise in After upgrading to 3.2.4, I can't find the Director on the user app or Composer
typically a network related issue. Something on your network maybe filtering network packets. if uninstalling the app does not fix it you will need to contact tech for help narrowing down the issue.

Matt Lowe reacted to msgreenf in Remove patio lights from C4 system; replace with lighted smart fans
Already done! I helped @Steve7485yesterday. We upgraded from 2.9.0 to 3.3.1, added the modern forms fans, added Sonos, removed the programming and also unbound the keypad buttons from the load so that the fans can’t be turned off! Pretty successful and all in about 45 min

Matt Lowe reacted to RyanE in New Halo and Halo Touch Remotes
A non-official reply to answer a few of the questions / statements posted here:
The 'OFF' ('Room Off') button is on the top of the remote when looking at the remote face. The thing on the top of the remote that looks like an IR window is a light sensor for display auto-dim. The microphone is located on the top of the remote. Both the Halo and Halo Touch are *Wifi* remotes, 2.4GHz + 5GHz. The Wifi chipsets in these remotes are much more robust than the Neeo. Despite running at CEDIA (horrible Wifi environment), the remotes did not 'drop offline' or just fail to control the system, although they did from time to time have delays, which is understandable due to the environment and also they are pretty early pre-release firmware. Announced at the show is voice integration with Xfinity X1 and AppleTV, both are updated versions of the existing IP drivers. The 'voice target' for the remote is currently the selected device in the room, so the AppleTV example would require the AppleTV to be the active video device to receive voice. The Halo remote is *NOT* a touchscreen, it is list-based, similar to (but significantly improved on) the SR260. While you could accurately say it's a replacement for the SR260, Snap One has not to my knowledge expressed an EOL for the SR260. The Halo Touch remote is a touchscreen, and it is a replacement for the Neeo. The UI is not the Neeo UI, and is not Android. Both remotes are running a more full-blown base OS than the SR260 or the Neeo, and I believe it will allow Snap One to do some really fun update features post-release, although of course, I'm only going to discuss things that are currently announced or were fully discussed at the show. I'm excited for the new remotes, and hope they'll be as awesome as I think they will be at release (and later!).

Matt Lowe reacted to Thepritch88 in C4 compatible streaming player to watch Youtube, Netflix and etc outside USA
I think Roku, nvidia shield and Fire TV are probably the most popular, not sure if any of them are available in your region though. Chowmain do a driver that works with a lot of android tv boxes but I have no experience with it

AppleTV = IR integration, period. IP doesn't add any benefit anyway. Use an IR driver and it'll work just fine.
Android TV is likely available, and the above mentioned driver is excellent.
Best integration is probably Roku, but as per above post I can't comment on availability.

My favorite is the Chromecast with Google TV. Supports 4k HDR and is bang for buck if you're after streaming services.
Works great with the following driver.

https://www.control4.com/dealer_locator . Keep in mind in my experience that the dealer tier isn't always a reflection of the quality of the dealer and there are plenty of good bronze / silver dealers out there (so don't worry too much if there are no platinum dealers in your area)
It could be worth mentioning what networking and lighting equipment you have there too, as dealers tend to be specialised in different ranges of products

With Software 3.3 you can use the colour wheel
So change the bulbs and bridge to colour
get your dealer to insert the new driver and you have a colour wheel - Great Fun

Bahhh! 🤦♂️ I can be such a dolt sometimes! lol
And you're right on the other thing too - just pick one switch and apply to all other lights in the project.

Matt Lowe got a reaction from Andrew luecke in Update drivers in HE
The best you can do is to have your dealer turn on the automatic update for the drivers that support it. This is also one of those things that the driver only needs to be updated if a new feature or something is broken. This more important for more complicated drivers that have many features.

Matt Lowe got a reaction from msgreenf in Sync 2 switches
you could also use the dimmer load group driver. This allows multiple lights to be controlled by a single driver and acts more like a single load driver. You could also program on light level changing that the other light set itself to the same level if you want to do it your self with out pro. We have covered this topic in our Composer Home Training yet, but it is a curious idea that I might just look into now.

Matt Lowe got a reaction from ImaC4Noob in Newbie - 8 Channel Dimmer question
you can set the dimmer modules to act as a switch on each of the channels. If you are a dealer you can read the information on the module settings on the online portal. you can also read about it in the driver documentation in home or pro on the driver itself.

Matt Lowe reacted to Darin, PM C4 CX Platform in Hue with 3.3 - Best Practices?
@chrism,
Are you a dealer or an end-customer. I have Hue in my project and can confirm 1-4 is working properly on the 3.3.0 build just released to production.
1. Make sure your using the new Philip's Hue Light (OS 3.3.0+) drivers (v72) with your bulbs and that the Hue bridge driver is updated to the latest (v 849) and then make sure your Poll interval is set, this is the polling rate that it will check for state changes. So if you make a change in the Hue app it will take this long before C4 is in-sync with what is shown in the Hue app. (Default rate is 30 seconds) For 2 & 3, The T3 & T4 have the functionality, it is under a long press of the bulb icon > color. However, it may just need to sync with the feature flag server before it is available. It does a check-in for feature changes every 15 minutes or so, you can reboot the device to speed things up. We are in the process of moving to a new service that will be instant, because the sync delays associated with the current feature flag service can cause confusion. ^ See above What kind of switch are you binding it too? When bound to a keypad, everything is working properly in my system for on, off, and dimming. (See attached image)

Matt Lowe reacted to Cyknight in How can i learn Control 4??
To prevent confusion: There IS official training from Control4 that is required - there is just no real way of getting it outside of being part of a dealership (or possibly recognized 3rd party driver developer, not sure on that one)

Matt Lowe reacted to Cyknight in Control4 Multidisplay driver with Video Storm Netplay
The multi display agent is not dependant on any brand or type of video switching as such (or having any at all), so in basic principal, yes.
Understand that the multi display agent is for controlling multiple displays easily in a single screen, and is NOT for controlling a tiled video wall (as in, displaying a single image stretched across TVs) just in case that's what your asking for).
It's also more or less limited in function to be used for controlling cable/sat boxes, in that it is more about selecting channels on TVs and moving them around/changing them around. While you're not unable to select other sources, you'll have no real (nice) control over them inside the multi display screen, and it's just not 'convenient' to use it for that.
It's REALLY built around the sportsbar/watching multiple games/shows/sports at the same time.

Matt Lowe got a reaction from zaphod in Help Selecting Smart Lighting Platform
one that was not mentioned. These are a zigbee device which is a mesh network. At some point you just have to many nodes and too many ways for the data to travel back to the hub. Having so many paths can cause the data to jump around and get lost or cause a lot of latency. Depending on how good the mesh is you can have larger sizes too. Control4 will recommend no more than 100 devices to a single mesh but you can do more if needed, but some may experience issues. It's also a good rule of thumb that if a room has a lot of devices in a small space you may want to segregate them to their own mesh for the same reasons as above.

I notice it a bit. hue changed the group light functionality and they want you to make the groups in the hue app now.
Also some big changes coming soon on the control4 side that will make it even better! can't wait!

Matt Lowe reacted to RAV in What do you do when a Smart Home Devices' cloud servers shut down?
Don't rent your IOT.
This isn't going to end. If you're relying on the cloud for any type of processor, you don't own your IOT, you're renting it.
You are at the mercy of the cloud, whoever they are.
If they want to raise rates, change terms, remove features, stalk you, sell you, deny you, there's nothing you can do about it.
Own your smart home.
(This isn't specifically a Control4 plug, there are many systems that are in the own it category.)
