wnpublic reacted to C4 User in Best way to make YouTube TV like traditional Cable
YouTube TV allows you to order the channels in any order you want. It works great on Apple TV. Order your wife’s favorite channels at the top and she should be happy. Very easy to navigate.

I suggest you do Lutron. They have a variety of lines and budgets including panelized. You can even mix them seamlessly if you have a central system like Control4. It keeps you fully compatible but agnostic to whatever central home system you choose to ever have. You can use those proprietary C4 keypads for scene and other system controls.

Actually I don’t want it free. I spent close to 2000 dollars on these new remotes , so pardon me if I had an expectation they function.
One unit was DOA and being replace , and the others can’t last a day.

if I missed any marketing from c4 saying the battery life is horrendous , that I apologize for. Can you provide the link where they explain the remote must be recharged between each use , or the remote won’t be ready the next time you need it ?

I’m coming from 250/260 and only wanted the voice control. For the price of these remotes , I’m not sure my expectations should be battery life is good for less then 12 hours.

I have Omada EAP access points - enabled UAPSD - no effect . Does the remote even support this ?

Im ok being a beta tester .. just shocked at how poor the initial release is

Then they should market the device as needing to be constantly charged. Changing everyone’s habits including children to always recharge the remote is not worth the trade off of having Siri voice control.
aside from Siri voice control there is not much benefit - all the buttons have been moved around and the battery life is so poor , had I known this as an end user there is zero chance I would have purchased 3 of these paperweights.
This remote is a big disappointment

My vote would be to put it on the charging cradle where it belongs when not using it and stop worrying too much about battery life.

I want it all, I want it now, I want it for free. And if I didn't do my homework it's not my fault.

So, I am doing HA systems as well. The best advice I can give is to create them based on a lot of the core devices that I know and vet. With that said, the biggest advantage to HA as a pro is that most parts have their own separate control and app so when full system integrations break down, you dont lose the ability to control that individual device while a solution is updated/made etc.

I have been reading some of these posts and wanted to throw my solution in the ring. I have set up home assistant as the ultimate do all “driver” for c4. I use chowmain’s tcp driver and some virtual outputs on my elk security system to send info back and forth between the 2 systems.
    I have had c4 for over a decade (probably closer sto 15 yrs at this point). All my a/v, lights, security is c4 and touching it would not have any wife approval factor. So why do I use home assistant?  Well the wife and kids still use all the controls they are comfortable with: remotes, phones, switches, etc.  Home assistant can do more backend things that don’t need interaction such as;
1). People tracking. It works with phones to know where people are
    2) Alexa AND Apple HomeKit integration
    3) use of better cheaper sensors. I love aqara sensors. I have their tiny motion sensors and mmWave sensors all over my house. But any zigbee 3.0 sensors work
    4) Tesla integration
    5) sleep number bed integration
    6) I have a bunch more that are sort of there but 3 kids they are waiting to be done, including ESPN fav team notification and the big one 2 way notifications.  Be able to interact with the system through push notification.  Ex.  Left your house and lights are on?  Get a push notification and it asks if you want to cut them off  (Done through Home Assistant but can control c4 through a simple tcp command sent to chowmains driver)
pretty much any thing you can think of that has a home assistant integration can be added for FREE. I run my HA in a virtual machine so the cost to set up was a zigbee dongle and cost of sensors which is 10-20 bucks each off Amazon
i do some programming in node red on Home Assistant side because I like it more for complex programming. For example I have 2 mmWave sensors and 3 ir motion sensors in my kitchen and Florida room. They form a motion group. If motion is not detected in the group for 5 mins. It stores the current scene and turns out the lights. If you enter the rooms within 2 hours the saved scene comes back on. After 2 hours it defaults to a scene based on time of day.  If you manually turn off a light it disable motion for a few mins to prevent turning lights back on.  Home assistant has a driver for control4 lights so it can all easily be done in node red. Also the flow makes it much easier to group all these steps in one visual pane.

Same. I was pretty surprised that it needed to be docked at all times. My old non rechargeable SR260 lasts months before it needs new batteries and I was naively thinking this new remote would be similar and only need to be charged weekly. You know, similar to those old Harmony’s. 😉

This is the missunderstaning. If you think a C4 driver was anything more than a drop in a bucket in additional sales to the masssive retail and online Wemo sales you will continue to be disappointed by other brands.  The pro/custom AV channel does not matter or drive any of consumer electrionics market.

Agreed - the C4 is the bottom one.  Except it's 5x the cost of the top one.

I didn’t state any facts so I dont know what is incorrect.
The Harmony line was a MASSIVE success, if you think that a resurgence of the product would not be well received or considered terribly dated I have a bridge to sell you…
The Halo is a remote about a half a decade late to its competitors, and still has limited functions in comparison.

wnpublic reacted to Double D in So now that Control4 end users are allowed to add Halo remotes to their system...
Most any additions to C4 need some programming. Adding WiFi remotes to an existing system that is already programmed does not any programming, at least to do the basics. This allows C4 dealers to drop off/ship remotes straight through the job site and just about anyone will be able to add it in. This helps dealers and end users on a product that MANY will likely upgrade to.

This is meant to be an upgrade, not an addition. And there will still be programming in the system needed to do more advanced functions like voice control.
C4 is not a DIY system. It is for clients who aren’t able or don’t want to automate their own system, often providing more advanced features/quality.

Who cant keep up, Control4?  This is a non issue on other systems even when Apple has to “fix” something.

I appreciate that but I honestly doubt my opinion is uncommon if you were to consult with interior design professionals and architects of luxury residential dwellings.  It certainly was our personal, builder and designers opinions.

Thanks for letting me know and I'm glad they are working on it
I am forever baffled by how poor C4 products are, especially considering the price.
Anyways, I appreciate the forum being here to help!

Saw that too but that is local at each location.  Cool idea, but that can get very expensive fast.  I am looking for something to monitor the whole house for small leaks in a pipe, or a pipe burst.  With that smart water assistant by phyn i believe it just monitors that specific feed so if you set it up on a sink it monitors that sink but not the rest of the house
My StreamLabs will monitor the entire house, as will Moen or the more expensive Phyn device.

I use Home Assistant and Control4.  I use the Generic TCP Plugin for Control4 and use it to make Webhook requests to Home Assistant.  I have about 20 ZigBee shades that don't work with C4 so I have them on Home Assistant, and then I use Experience Buttons and webhooks to open and close the shades.  I also use Home Assistant for Philips Hue as it supports Dynamic scenes which Control4 does not (the ones where you can press Play and they animate).  I also use webooks to trigger those scenes, such as "When XYZ Advanced Lighting scene is invoked, run webhook to set the Hue lights to a dynamic scene" etc.

It seemed like the discussion was about 3.3.1, as in "it drops support for a piece of hardware and that has upset some people."  Agree that the jailbreaking stuff is a different deal.

Yes, it is super lame that there is no better way to find what’s been programmed for your own house.  In general, it’s crazy that they continue to evolve the hardware side but composer is basically windows 98.
