Not sure I'm following.   I have 4 Ruckus APs on Unleashed with no service plan and no controllers needed.   Ruckus provides free firmware updates as well.   The only thing they don't do is sit on the phone with you and troubleshoot issues without a service plan (good luck getting that with Ubiquiti either and for those who would purchase, they dont offer).

And those service contracts you keep talking about is certainly coming from your installer because that is not a requirement from Ruckus.

Understood - just offering an option.  I agree with you and others on Unifi GUI.  It's comprehensive and very solid.  On the other hand, Unleashed is an easy firmware upgrade (most of the gray market equipment is ZoneFlex, but some people don't realize how easy the switch of firmware is) and it does most of what you will ever need from within the app.
You would have to pry my Ruckus 710's from my cold dead hands, but the new Unifi gear is good too.  Just watch out for beta releases etc.

TP-Link work just fine.  Just be aware that while on/off/dim will be instantaneous, feedback on state will lag behind.  That's because the driver will be polling for state only every 10 seconds +.  In other words, the touchscreen will show the light as off for a few seconds, even after you turn it on.  Not really an issue for your use case.
The driver for TP/Kasa is from Chowmain and is easy to set up and robust, assuming that you have solid wi-fi.  The switches use a 2.4 network, not 5 GHz.

On the mobile side it really doesn't take away resources to work on those areas. We have developers working on all 3 of the areas mentioned by @wnpublic.  Media wall does have an important place in the platform and has been highly requested feature allowing dealers more lines of revenue than they previously had before. This didn't come at a sacrifice to intercom or performance issues that are also being worked on. Those previously mentioned pain points each have their own unique challenges and problems to work through but are of high priority to the dev team to resolve. I hope that calms any fears about the focus of work.

Alan’s Hikvision driver is my favorite new driver this year.  Works so well, and having true IP control of the NVR as an HDMI source is really useful.

I once integrated a 1918 Edison intercom system. We disassembled it, and soldered a new intercom on the existing intercom plate (so technically it was a new intercom).   The home was a tuberculosis home where wealthy with the disease would come to Colorado to get better.  The homeowner wanted new tech but keep the old look. it was a fun project for sure

Thanks Mitch - we have Dots laying around, so will try first.  Echo Input definitely neater (and no speaker to cause confusion).
This is definitely the way to go for this client - no need to use Spotify Connect, which they don't like.

I did the same thing in the master bed/bath.  Additionally, in the Amazon app, you can set the local dot in the room to ALWAYS play audio out of the dot in the A/V rack so you don't have to add the "on the Party Dot" line to your command.  Create a room in Alexa called "Kitchen" and add both Dots.  Under Speakers, select the Dot in the A/V rack as the only speaker and all audio will go through the dot in the A/V rack...
I have my EA5 to leave the MDX16 on the A/V rack dot input fulltime except when I use the C4 keypad/TS/remote to play audio in the room.  When the EA5 commanded audio is turned off, it reverts the MDX to the dot input.

No, there should be an option for automation to DIY things, and there is. A singular company isn't obliged to meet the need of all, just that of their target market.

OceanDad reacted to RAV in Control4 not working with new mesh system
The Control4 people likely put in an Araknis router.
The Eero people should have left said router in place, added the Eero and put the Eero in bridge mode (which would have turned it into WiFi APs rather than routing devices), and you'd be done.
Eero is not recommended as stated to run a Control4 system.
2 APs is way under designed for 6000sqft.

Ideally you’ll set up the Frame TV’s driver properties to “Art mode without app” on Power Off. This way C4 doesn’t think that you are using a “Watch” source when Art mode is being used.

OceanDad reacted to -defunct- in Control4 not working with new mesh system
Just a note on Mesh WiFi and why it is never recommended:
A Control4 system relies on multicast and most Mesh systems disable or extremely restrict multicast.
You might have internet, but that uses unicast.
Mesh APs are okay when not configured in mesh, and instead are configured as individual APs with a wire going back to a central switch.
I'm not at all surprised you have issues because your phone likely can't find the Control4 system due to the multicast being blocked. (The app uses multicast to find the system).
Most IT specialists hate multicast because they don't know how to properly configure a network for it and they don't use products that need it. If you ask any corporate IT specialist, they'll tell you they disable multicast and set up specific routes for unicast traffic. Smart home systems require a significantly more capable network engineer to set the network up properly.

Just tried this on a 9664NI-I8 NVR.  Works very well for controlling the menu functions via IP.  Have been trying to find a workaround for this for quite some time.  Lets me push the full 4K HDMI output through an AV matrix, and control the camera view via a C4 remote.  Useful.
    Thanks, @alanchow

OceanDad got a reaction from Matt Mackenzie in In-ceiling speakers are buzzing
Assuming that you are using an amp like a C4/Triad 4 zone or 8 zone, try turning the GAIN control screw all the way down on one zone and see if it cures the problem in that zone.  If so, there's your answer, and you can turn it back up to whatever level you like, before the buzzing is audible.
But, as already noted, it could be a ground loop or a power cable that's running too close to a badly shielded audio cable etc.
