100% agree.

OceanDad reacted to RAV in CAT cable in concrete screed
Recommend do not put the cable in the conduit until after the concrete is set.
The curing process gives off heat, and could damage the conductor's insulation/twist of the cable depending on conduit, thickness, application process, covering, etc.

OceanDad got a reaction from c44me in Trouble - need opinions
I've seen similar issues on Araknis routers when they get too hot. Check ventilation/temperature etc.

OceanDad reacted to Andrew luecke in Help, I want a faster internet in my home
You need to ensure the new network setup is exactly the same setup as the old one (same DHCP table, same wifi password/encryption and settings, etc, same STP settings, etc).
UDM should be 850mbps MAX with IPS.. But, I'd generally recommend UDM Pro (as you shouldn't be using the Wifi built into the UDM anyway, as it doesn't seem to roam with the AP's in my experience).
That being said, I'd avoid using the ISP router. Here in Australia, I've seen ISP's remotely reconfigure them (maybe when doing Firmware upgrades), and a lot of them are the cheapest possible router with serious bugs (I've come across some that don't even manage the DHCP table properly).
IMHO, do It properly with a router, dedicated Managed switch, and dedicated hardwired AP's. As a bonus, it means you'll be able to upgrade component-by-component as required in the future. It rarely pays off to go cheap

OceanDad reacted to tekki70 in Samsung Frame Issue with C4
if you dont want any delay to the tv then control it with RS232, it works flawless, we have many out there without issues being controlled ip, but we have had a few that kept losing its pairing so we switched them to RS232 control

You can also use Blustream.. Great products: https://www.blustream.com.au/8-x-8-hdbaset-matrix (actually, probably the most common product in countries like Australia and NZ at this time)

OceanDad reacted to C4 User in Purchased Home With Existing Control4 - How To Transfer/Set Up
@Danimite as a long time user of C4 (not a dealer) I highly recommend you start by engaging one of the remote dealers on this forum to look at your system, ensure it is up to date, and to help you get setup and comfortable with the system. They will also be able to tell you what you have and equally important what you do not have. If your tv or AVR is integrated into C4, than you will need a dealer to configure this part of your system regardless. Having been a C4 user for almost 15 years now, a LOT has changed and improved. I promise it will be worth your time and money.

OceanDad reacted to tekki70 in C4 Dealer Ratings??
We do take overs all the time, our project manager always goes out and reviews the site and has a discussion with client at no charge, then we send out one of our top techs to look over the system, make recommendations, update if possible and charge for our time. It may not be a huge profit, but it is a client gained and if we can get the system more user friendly and stable its a plus for everyone. We gained a client and hopefully an avenue to gain more clients, word of mouth is our main part of our business. Trust me when we come across these take overs there is always a reason, its either the system is just not done correctly, the install was poor, the programming was terrible, the design was garbage, or the client was a true pain in the ass. Yes there is always a reason. We are a Gold Dealer, We may never be a pinnacle dealer, we dont strive for a label, we strive to make all the clients we have happy, within reason we do what we can. We have 1 dedicated service guy, the rest are techs and if we have to we will pull a tech off an install to take the load off our service tech. Our main servicer is done remotely and then a truck is rolled out if it cant be fixed from our office. The true story of why a dealer and client part ways is no concern of ours, just getting the system functioning properly is. However, if its a totally unruly client, sometimes the headache isnt worth the takeover but we still try. We also need to make the system serviceable so yes we will require a rack to be rewired or parts to be included into the system for our service needs and yes it sucks to tell a client he has to pay again to have us make a rack serviceable because 90% of the problems we come across are from a poorly installed rack, crappy designed system. Like any other field, there are guys, and companies that care about thier work, and thier are guys and companies that care about the $$$ overall.
And its just my opinion that C4 should have some sort of accountability to dealers, they should have a way that if they receive so many complaints they should drop those dealers. Its a very good product and should have a way to weed out poor dealerships.

OceanDad reacted to therockhr in How to switch away from Control4?
i absolutely hate when someone installs banks of hidden switches like this. its not how its supposed to be. RF smart switches are supposed to be installed in the same places you would install a regular switch/dimmer. if someone wanted to reduce wall clutter then they should go with panelized wiring.
Seems to be a market to make a module to dim 4 or so loads of lighting.

OceanDad reacted to eggzlot in Moving house, wanting to try a different platform...
I'd think a Toyota dealers knows what Honda and Nissan are up to and will tell you why the comparable Toyota is better than the Honda or a Nissan. They may not know about Lamborghini, but they know the other cars in their direct competitive market.

In 2020 you asked about how C4 compares to RTI
Whats the real deal here

Well - it's already fixed a long standing bug for me on my own project. The Zigbee Health tool is finally working again - I think it broke at 3.2, can't quite remember.

OceanDad reacted to RyanE in How can i learn Control 4??
Or do if you think it will get you where you want to go.
Believe it or not, not everyone has the same set of circumstances, and what works for one person may or may not work for someone else.

OceanDad got a reaction from jimbones in Lutron RA3
Looks like the LEAP driver for switches etc has just been updated to v6, and that now apparently supports RA3. However, the Processor driver is still on V5 and there is no mention of RA3 in the documentation. Seems like the processor driver must be close to release.

Ah, I see that now thanks. OP should check that the driver file names were not changed at all during download etc. That will cause the icon to revert to the default DVD icon as shown.

OceanDad reacted to Kaas Mayer in New AVA remote for Control4
even if this would be the holy gral of all remotes. i won´t spend a single dime for Raphael Oberholzer.
He ripped of all early bakers and users of the original neeo remote. he sold the device to c4 and stopped all services for the original remote.
so it ended as a brick. he sold a business to c4 which was financed through the whole community.
i hope he get what he deserves.

OceanDad reacted to South Africa C4 user in Is C4 getting lapped by open source solutions?
Glad to hear I am not daft 😀. Equally, I wouldn’t let one (inappropriate) comment from a C4 employee put you off the system itself. It is a truly great system and I cannot (do not) believe that the views posted here are representative of the C4 culture. I have interacted with numerous other C4 employees and have always been impressed!
C4 remains the best automation system available in my opinion.

OceanDad reacted to Andrew luecke in Shelly vs Zwave
Yes. It's still local control even when using the cloud agent.
The cloud agent simply enhances local control.
By the way, if you use rgbw2 or blinds, there is a new beta which fixes some things.
Also, I used to own a vera myself years ago tbh. Can't imagine why you ripped it out 😂.
If you're using relays, the ShellyNG devices are the plus pucks or the pro4/2/1pm and are what I recommend. For inputs, use the i4. There are no ShellyNG dimmers yet, although I have added code to help expedite development once it is released
